Rajpal Yadav
Ramu's Soorma Bhopali has been announced. Character actor Rajpal Yadav will play the character of Bhopali, a role immortalized by yesteryear comedian Jagdeep in Ramesh Sippy's 'Sholay'. Yadav has signed on the dotted line but is yet to discuss the variations of the character in the new version.

The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Mohit Ahlawat (whose 'James' flopped.) Rajpal's solo release 'Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh' premieres tomorrow.

Amitabh not fond of bikes because of accidents

Mumbai, Oct. 5 (UNI): After a string of flops, Abhishek Bachchan may have strode to stardom while riding bikes in the movie 'Dhoom', but in real life his father and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, does not like the mean machines.

"I feel very insecure because of accidents," the senior Bachchan said while chatting with cine actors John Abraham and Bipasha Basu, in the upcoming Dussehra special episode of 'KBC-2', slated for telecast on October 9.

John, who has a passion for bikes, recalled an incident when he had come over to Bachchan's home to show Abhishek his new bike and how Amitabh had come over and told him not to force his son to ride the bike.

John said he was possessive about his motorbike and did not allow anyone to touch it. To this, Bipasha said bikes de-stressed John and hence, she gifted him one. She said John's obsession with his bike was so much that once he asked her to take her hand off it as her ring would scratch his machine.

Amitabh recalled on the show how in their times bicycle was a big craze and his bicycle used to be kept near his bed.

John also said he kept his helmets and jackets at his bedside.

Meanwhile, the amount that John-Bipasha will win on the special Dussehra show will go towards the 'Make A-Wish Foundation', working for the children suffering from cancer, and PETA (People for Ethical Treatment to Animals.)

John also expressed his support towards PETA and said he was in favour of sterilisation of animals.

Hi Neetu,

thanks for reloading the file again. good article!

my mind is reeling with different bits of news giving different
information about "link-ups" ....hahaha :-)

friendship can so easily be misunderstood for "something more".
only the heart knows the truth.

i do believe vivek is a great guy for ash actually. he has been
there for her, he seems mature and patient and committed, he lets
her free to do things as she wishes(as opposed to the possessive
salman, even though i like that guy!) and is open about his
feelings. great qualties in a guy any girl would like.

i think "being seen together" doesn't tell anything.

Rani, Preity, Vivek, Ash, Priyanka, Abhi....all beautiful, talented,
young people who are ALSO thinking about settling down "one day".
It's normal for them to get to know other people as much as possible
before making a huge decision of marriage.

My best wishes to them and all the others!
The journey isn't easy but I hope they all make the best, well
informed decision in the end.

Movies to watch out for in the last quarter of 2005
By IndiaFM

With the end of the third quarter of 2005, Bollywood saw quite an interesting lot of films that hit the bull's eye. Love stories (Bunty Aur Babli, Saalam Namaste, Lucky - No Time For Love), comedy capers (Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, No Entry), patriotism (Mangal Pandey), family dramas (Waqt - The Race Against Time), realistic flicks (Black, Page 3, Sarkar)… Bollywood has seen it all this year.

As we approach the last three months of the year, we let you know which films you should be looking forward to as potential blockbusters.

Ek Ajnabee Ek Ajnabee

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Perizaad Zorabian, Baby Rucha Vaidya.
Director: Apoorva Lakhia.

The Story:
The film is about a man (Amitabh Bachchan) who has lost everything he loved on this planet, from his lonely journey into self-destruction to his emergence into a man with the help of an 8-year-old girl (Rucha Vaidya).

It is a film about love and revenge. It is a film about the tender moments in life that become very special. It is a film about a little girl who helps save a giant from the jaws of death.

What To Watch Out For:
After a stupendous show in Black, Amitabh will return with a seasoned performance as an ex-army man who loses his state of mind. The slick packaging

Release Date: December 9

Rang De Basanti Other movies to watch out for:
Some other biggies are also scheduled in the coming months but with the release dates shuffling every Friday we cannot assure whether the movies will make it this year. In fact in some cases neither can the filmmakers assure. Hence, the movies below have been kept out from the list…

  • Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti starring Aamir Khan and Soha Ali Khan

  • Rajkumar Santoshi's Family - Ties of Blood starring Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.

  • Rohan Sippy's Bluffmaster starring Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh and Priyanka Chopra

  • Yashraj's Neal N Nikki starring Uday Chopra and Tannisha

  • Vikram Bhatt's Deewane Huye Pagal starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Shahid Kapur, Rimmi Sen and Paresh Rawal

  • RGV's Mr. Ya Miss starring Antara Mali, Aftab Shivdasani and Ritesih Deshmukh

  • Suneel Darshan's Dosti - Friends Forever starring Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor and Lara Dutta.

October 4: December 16 will witness the clash of father and son. At the box-office window that is.

The Amitabh Bachchan starrer Family - Ties Of Blood and the Abhishek Bachchan starrer Bluffmaster! are scheduled to hit the screens the same Friday.

While the producers of Family...have already confirmed the release date with their distributors, the release date of Bluffmaster! was decided upon barely few days ago.

This isn't the first time the two Bachchans are clashing with one another. Diwali 2004 witnessed the release of Veer-Zaara and Naach and the father came home triumphant.

Tale of two film units in two cities

It's all in the family, so to speak. Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar have a lot in common. Both of them adore Farah Khan and currently the two producers are sharing more than just a common affinity for her choreography.

The units of Nadiadwala's "Jaan-e-Man" and Karan Johar's "Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna" are currently shooting in New York.

Though the two "Jaan-e-Man" heroes Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar cannot see eye to eye, the spill-over impulse is taking over. Shah Rukh and Salman have rediscovered their friendship and are constantly connected.

Preity Zinta is common to both big projects, and so is Farah Khan. Last weekend Shah Rukh from Karan's unit and Salman from Sajid's film (being directed by Farah Khan's husband Shirish Kunder) joined forces to perform for the Sahara Sangeet awards and had a ball together.

"It's almost become like one big extended family away from Mumbai," laughed Karan Johar.

"We're constantly in and out of each other's domain. New York has begun to look like Mumbai...And wait till Amit uncle and Abhishek arrive here next week,"

Bollywood’s crown prince

Udita Jhunjhunwala

October 4, 2005

It seems Abhishek can’t put a foot wrong these days. Cover stories, rising fan hysteria and overall goodwill seem to be following him around. How does he cope with it? “You just have to enjoy it. It’s not going to last so you can’t let it get to you. At the end of the day you have to be yourself and do what you have to do, be thankful for the good things and try not to upset people.” Among the headlines associated with him, are various link-ups. So what is the truth? Is he engaged to Rani, seeing Dipannita or being courted by Ash? “By now I’m the most married and divorced man around,” he replies rolling his eyes. “I could give Elizabeth Taylor a run for her money. Little do people know how boring I am – I go to work and come home and sleep. I am currently too busy working but it is flattering that people find me eligible and worthy.”

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s son, Abhishek has a daunting legacy to follow up. He’s already had over 24 releases but only a handful of hits. Yet top film-makers like Ram Gopal Varma, Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar want to cast him. He’s the latest heartthrob and, as heir to the Bachchan surname, Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor. So how much of a burden is the name? “I will always be my father’s son, but my surname was handed down by my grandfather. I hold and guard it very carefully and will continue to do so.”

His 24 films have been Abhishek’s main learning ground. He repeatedly watches each of them to study his mistakes and performance.

The dressing up of Aishwarya Rai

The ethnic and exotic costumes of Rekha in 'Umrao Jaan', are remembered even today, 24 years after the film’s release. So designing the costumes in the film’s remake will be quite a Herculean task.

It helps if the person who will don the costumes in the remake of the film is one of the beautiful women in the world - Aishwarya Rai , but to make her look more stunning in ethnic and exotic costumes is also a challenge.

So the film’s director J.P. Dutta has assigned the task of designing costumes for Ash to Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, who design for the Bachchans.

According to sources, the celebrated designer duo is already working on the clothes of the former Miss World.

The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan (as Ash’s love interest), Sunil Shetty (as bandit Faiz Ali) and Arshad Warsi .

Now it remains to been whether Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla do live up to the expectations of Dutta, who would surely like to better those clothes.

Priyanka-Harman break-up?

Recent rumours of Abhishek-Priyanka affair made Harman Baweja, producer-director Harry Baweja's son, fuming. And Harman is so upset that he even stopped talking with girlfriend Priyanka Chopra. Though Priyanka has denied any link with Junior Bachchan but her split with Harman is almost inevitable.
Even there is a buzz that Priyanka may opt out of the film; she is supposed to be doing with Harry

Lucky mascot who? Abhishek!

By: Subhash K Jha

Abhishek is fast acquiring the reputation of being a true friend to his friends. Three director-friends Goldie Behl, Apoorva Lakhia and Rohan Sippy realized just how much he stands by his friends.

Rohan Sippy's second film Bluff Master with Abhishek isn't only nearly ready for release, it will also feature Abhishek enacting the legendary Mehmood's track 'The Whole Thing Is That Ke Bhaiyya Sabse Badaa Rupaiyaa' from the film Sabse Badaa Rupaiyaa.

Contradicting his new power-packed star-status Abhishek has gone all out to support Goldie and Apoorva to set up their post-debut directorial efforts.

Goldie's first film Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai came more than four years ago. Since then he has been busy putting together a TV software company with his sister. There were talks about a film for producer Feroz Nadiadwala in –between.

But now Goldie is finally coming out of cinematic hibernation with a film with his buddy Abhishek in the lead.

Says Abhishek, "There was no question of not doing Goldie's film. It was understood from beforehand that I'd be in his film no matter what he made. It's the same with JP Saab. When he asked me to do Umrao Jaan I didn't question him about my role. I hadn't questioned him about my role in LOC. How can I? He's a father-fugure."

Goldie's film takes off in 2007 because that's when this ultra-busy actor has his first free moment.

After Bunty Aur Babli, Dus, Sarkar and now Salaam Namaste(where he did a comic climactic guest appearance) Abhishek is considered a lucky mascot.

"Lucky mascot?" Abhishek laughs out aloud. "Wasn't I the guy who couldn't get even one hit straight? These dips and rises shouldn't be allowed to colour your judgement about your intrinsic worth. I know what I'm worth. I know how far I've to go as an actor."

'Lucky mascot' Abhishek will be seen making an appearance in buddy Apoorva Lakhia's Ek Ajnabee. "It's a very small role. And I did it not because Appu needed me to be in his film…please, with my dad in Ek Ajnabee I can hardly count for clout. I Just wanted to be part of the film. It isn't a guest appearance or a friendly appearance. It's a part that someone had to play. It just happens to be me."

Due to time constraints Abhishek had to say no to Mira Nair's The Namesake. "My loss entirely," Abhishek deadpans.

He's currently shooting for Sanjay Gadhvi's Dhoom 2 and then he leaves for New York to join Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee for Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna.

I'm having a ball. But the important thing is to remember, it isn't going to last ….Nothing does. Not success not failure."

Kajra Re, Next Take

October 1st, 2005

He’s a charmer, a smooth player and not many this side of the world know about it. His smooth ways went totally unnoticed so far as he remained under the shadow of the towering shadow of the Big B. But God, if smiles could kill, if eyes could wound, if words could conquer, Abhishek seems to have it all.

Or else, why do you think Priyanka swooned at his warm gesture and prayed aloud that every word he uttered about her come true. Why do you think Rani flaunts her friendship and chemistry with him? Why do think Dipannita Sharma was tightlipped (or speechless?) about what’s going on between the two? And why do you think Vivek Oberoi quietly left the battlefield without calling a press conference?

Seems that during the Kajra re song sequence both the Bachchans turned their charm on the Rai girl and this time the Junior was the winner. Now poor Rani is left feeling unattended to. Dipannita is heard pointing at Ash for their alleged split. So, is it Ash now, AB Ka Baby? The two families seem to be sharing more than just dinners together. But we aren’t jumping to any conclusions. Abhishek is just being sweet, just his nature, you know. Who knows very soon you might catch him taking a slo-mo run towards paradise with Mallika Sherawat.

Payback time for Bihari characters in Bollywood
Monday October 3 2005 00:00 IST

IANS

MUMBAI: There was a time in Bollywood when only gangsters and their sidekicks belonged to Bihar. All that is changing now. The leading men and women are no longer bashful of portraying Bihari characters.

The neo-revival of Bihari brotherhood began with Ajay Devgan's portrayal of the ideologically impassioned police officer in Prakash Jha's "GangaaJal".

Devgan again played a Bihari character in Rituparno Ghosh's "Raincoat", though he didn't try to put on a thick 'Bihari' accent, whatever that might be.

Prakash Jha locates most of his films, including the latest "Apharan", in Bihar though he never shoots in the state. Neither did Sudhir Mishra whose "Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi" was located partially in the supposedly crime-infested interiors of Bihar.

Mahesh Manjrekar flew down to Patna to shoot Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in his home turf for the comedy "Padmashri Laloo Prasad Yadav". Earlier Ram Gopal Varma's "Shool" about ideological cop Manoj Bajpai's struggle to remain untarnished was shot on location in north Bihar.

And decades before that, Dev Anand and Hema Malini had shot the song "O mere raja" in "Johnny Mera Naam" in the Nalanda district of Bihar.

But for long enough Bihari characters have been painted as slightly scummy in our films. So may be this is payback time.

Sushmita Sen plays a Bihari prostitute in Kalpana Lajmi's "Chingari".

And if father Amitabh Bachchan played a Bihari Robin Hood in K.C. Bokadia's "Lal Badshah", then Abhishek did two back-to-back Bihari films in Mani Ratnam's "Yuva" and Rituparno Ghosh's "Antar Mahal".

"I think I was a Bihari in my last life," jokes Abhishek.

Tamil superstar Madhavan has done his own bit to propagate the Bihari cause in Bollywood. He plays a Bihari cook, making it big in London with his culinary skills in the comedy "Ramji Londonwale".

Says Madhavan, "In the original Tamil film 'Nala Damyanthi', one of my favourite actors, Kamal Haasan, had played a Tamil cook in Australia. When we acquired the Hindi rights we decided to turn the Tamil cook into Bihari. It's my homage to my home state," says the actor.

"I don't think being Bihari is considered that infra-dig anymore. Lalu Prasad has turned Bihar into a state of curiosity.

"Of course, many of the characters sport unnaturally thick accents. The language of the Bihari characters needs to be worked on. We can't have caricatures posing as real characters. I've made sure my Ramji isn't a caricature."

Dipannita’s sick of media intrusion in personal life
- By Christina Francis

Hyderabad: Dipannita Sharma is the cynosure of all eyes these days. Though her career graph records a moderate growth, it’s her personal life that has attracted a lot of interest.

First, it was an alleged affair with Hindi film industry’s most eligible bachelor, Abhishek Bachchan, that kept her under the media’s scrutiny. now, after a highly-publicised "break-up" and sincere efforts to move on, there is still much media speculation about Dipannita’s personal life. The actress is clearly tired of being scrutinised under a microscope.

"It’s ridiculous how people enjoy haunting you when you are going through a bad phase in life. One film magazine had speculated that I would break down uncontrollably and pour my heart out to all the journalists who called me up. Do you think we (models and actors) are so stupid and lonely that we need to confide in people whom we have not even seen? These are nothing but malicious rumours," she says.

Dipannita does admit that it was difficult initially. "It’s demoralising when you open a newspaper or magazine and see ridiculous things being written about you. Initially, I would feel bad. All the pain has actually made me stronger. when you are a celebrity, no matter how big or small, people like to dissect every little aspect of your personal life. The journos are doing their job, and I am doing mine."

On that note, Dipannita has shot back into the limelight, for the right reasons this time. In town for the promotion of her latest movie Koi Aap Sa... she is excited about her role and her work on the whole. "I’ve never really approached producers and told them that I want to work with them. All the movies I’ve done just happened to come my way," she says.

When asked what she feels about models being called stone-faced, she says, "That’s just prejudice. There have been models who have proved this wrong. From Tina Munim and Praveen Babi to Juhi Chawla, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita, every model-turned-actress has done her bit to prove these prejudices wrong. As for me, modelling is my first love and the ramp is where I want to be."

Hyderabad has a special place in Dipannita’s heart. "16 december was shot in Hyderabad. For almost six months the city was a second home to me. Being a student of history, Charminar has a special place in my heart. It takes me back to my history texts. I must also add that I admire former CM Chandrababu Naidu for developing the city to such a large extent."

Bikini time: Ash getting into shape

By: Subhash K Jha
Last week, Abhishek Bachchan, Rimii Sen, Bipasha Basu and Uday Chopra started shooting for the much-talked about sequel to Dhoom.

According to producer Yash Chopra, the film is going to be much bigger, much more lavish and dazzling and many sizer larger than life as compared with the earlier Dhoom which gave a new flair and fillip to at least three careers : Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Deol and John Abraham.

Though John has been eliminated from the sequel, Abhishek and Esha are very much around. The film's arch-villain Hrithik Roshan and seductive moll Aishwarya Rai join the cast later.

They both intend to enjoy the process of turning negative (this is as close as Ash gets to doing Black, pun intended) to the hilt. Both the actors, in consultation with producer Aditya Chopra and director Sanjay Gadhvi have worked out their characters' looks in detail.

"All I can tell you is, it would be nothing like anything you've seen me do before," promises Aishwarya. The one thing that Aishwarya has zeroed in on is her svelte and sensuous appearance to go with her 'Catwoman'-like villainy.

Apparently Ms Rai's contract stipulates that she slip into a bikini in Dhoom 2. Producer Yash Chopra laughs off the rumour.

"I don't think our contract can specify such things. But yes, the role does require Aishwarya to convey oodles of sensuality. She has asked for a couple of months to get into shape. We (at Yashraj Films) are very clear about every character in every script and what's required of the actors. Before Dhoom Esha Deol was specifically briefed about the look and the attitude that she needed to cultivate. Esha readily agreed. And look at what Dhoom did to her career!"

So it is makeover time for Aishwarya Rai? And will Dhoom 2 revamp her image? "Not really required," says Dr Murli Manohar , producer of Aishwarya's hard-hitting real-life drama Provoked. "Aishwarya is already doing such a wide variety of roles. She doesn't need a makeover."

Adds J.P. Dutta, "I feel she has a truly international stature and can go to any level if guided correctly. The very fact that I want her to play both Umrao Jaan and Gayatri Devi proves how much faith I've in her range."
