Where is Abhishek’s hair-band?

When we met up with Abhishek Bachchan last, we were surprised to see Abhi sans his hair-band. And when we quizzed him about his missing accessory, Abhi told us, “My hair-band broke a few days ago, and I’ll have to get myself a new one. I wear it only because it keeps the hair off my face, because I find that very irritating. So, for the time-being I’ve to get off the hair that falls on my face with my hand, something which I’m not used to doing at all.” So, it’s either a new habit or a new hair-band for AB.

Like Guru, Mani knew 'Guru' would be a hit

IANS

Mani Ratnam "Guru" continues to rake in the moolah even after five weeks and veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam says that he had always been positive about the outcome of the film - just like his protagonist who dreamt big and went on to become a mega industrialist.

"Of course, I knew it would be a hit. Because when you make a film like 'Guru' you start thinking like Guru," Ratnam told IANS in an email interview.

According to the ibosnetwork.com, the Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai starrer, released Jan 12, has grossed approximately Rs.800 million across the country.

Loosely based on the life of industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani, the late founder of the Reliance group of industries, the film even managed a tax exemption in Uttar Pradesh.

When asked how much importance he gives to box office collections, Ratnam said: "I make a film with two objectives -- I should be happy with the film and the man who pays for the ticket should be happy with the film as well.

Download Guru Wallpapers"The first one I know because I am making the film and more clearly after I complete it. The second one I know only when it reaches a lot of people. Box office collections are equal to your film reaching a lot of people."

The film was dubbed in Tamil and Telugu and released the same day as the Hindi version.

Ratnam's next film is "Lajjo" in which Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor will be seen together for the first time. He hasn't yet started work on it, but says: "I'd better get to it."

'Drona' shooting put on hold
01st Mar 2007  20.03 IST
By ApunKaChoice

The shooting of Abhishek Bachchan’s forthcoming superhero film has hit a hurdle.

So much is being talked and written about Drona , which stars Abhishek Bachchan as a long haired superhero and Priyanka Chopra as his companion. The film will have Abhi performing several breath-taking stunts and actions.
One such action sequence was to be shot atop a moving train recently. But the permission to shoot in a train was cancelled by the Railway authorities after the recent bomb blasts in Samjhauta Express.

The movie’s producer Shrishti Arya says the permission to shoot was already taken but the terrorist attacks have put the railway authorities on their toes and all shootings in trains have been cancelled.

The action sequence was to be shot in a desert. It is believed to be a part of the movie’s climax.

While the movie’s shooting has been postponed until new clearance comes from authorities, Abhishek is said to be taking some time off from work and enjoying long drives in his Bentley car. Priyanka, on the other hand, has flown to the US to be with her ailing father.

‘Drona’ will release in 2007 only.

Box office analysis
Exclusive By Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 01, 2007]

Meanwhile GURUbhai continues to rock with further 1.5 crores in its 6th week. Due to competition from his dad [EKLAVYA], Abhishek did see a fall of 45% after a negligible fall of 15% in the week prior to it. At 40 crores, the film is now a superhit and gets both Mani Ratnam and Abhishek Bachchan a firm footing in the world of Hindi cinema. On the other hand VIVAH continues to be a success story it is with a mere 15% fall resulting in 50 lakhs more coming in. Rajshris are minting money and with 30 crores in already, the film was still running at 225 screens which is the second highest number of screens after EKLAVYA (450+). Phenomenal.

Amitabh, Abhishek, Preity, Rani, Hrithik and Karan Johar to make a cameo in Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' playing themselves
This year’s setting for Filmfare Awards also turned out to be the shooting location for Farah Khan’ film Om Shanti Om. Farah shot some of the scenes of Om Shanti Om at the award ceremony that happened last week.

Farah recently confirmed that since Om Shanti Om revolves around Bollywood, the film will have cameos by many known names in the industry who will play themselves. And that sequence from the film came live this Filmfare night. Farah finally spills the beans, “I have a Filmfare Award scene in the film where the character of Shah Rukh named Om Kapoor, is nominated for the Best Actor’s award. So, we thought it would be a good idea to use the stars who will be coming for the award function and make them speak about Om Kapoor and wishing him luck. Almost all the stars from the film industry like Mr Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Hrithik Roshan were present at the occasion. Everyone was very co-operative and very sporting.”

She further adds “Karan Johar will be playing the host for the awards night in the film”. But didn’t we recently hear that even Rishi Kapoor and Subhash Ghai feature in the film. So where do they come into picture? “Well they are the ones who present Shah Rukh with the Filmfare trophy in the film. “The scene where Shah Rukh is been given the award was shot the next day at the same location (Yash Raj Studios) with Rishi Kapoor and Subhash Ghai giving away the award”, confirms Farah.

Filmgoers may recollect that even Shirish Kunder’s Jaan-e-mann had a sequence in the Filmfare Awards set in the 70s where Salman Khan shares screen space with many yesteryear celebrities. Interestingly Shirish will be editing his wife Farah’s Om Shanti Om.

B'wood's high five from Yash Raj camp

IANS
Posted Friday , March 02, 2007 at 11:25
Mumbai: Yash Raj Films could easily be renamed as the Yash Raj Factory. Bollywood's most popular production house, known for its glamorous larger-than-life love stories, is planning to release five new films in 2007.
And it’s no surprise that the films will have some of the biggest stars in the industry including Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan and stage the comeback of the charismatic superstar Madhuri Dixit.
"We are very excited about our releases for 2007, not just because of the star casts, but because each film deals with a unique subject and has very promising young directors at the helm," said Chairman of Yash Raj Films (YRF), Yash Chopra.
The first release from the Yash Raj stable this year will be Siddharth Anand's second directorial venture (after Salaam Namaste), Ta Ra Rum Pum on April 27. The story revolves around a racer and has Saif and Rani in the lead.
Ta Ra Rum Pum will be followed by Shaad Ali's Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Scheduled for a June 15 release, Ali's third directorial venture has a stellar cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Preity, Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta, and Amitabh Bachchan in a special appearance.
YRF's third release Chak De India will showcase the talent of yet another young director, Shimit Amin, and stars Shah Rukh Khan in a pivotal role. It is slated to hit the screens on August 10.
The Chopras, who are known for releasing special films during the festival season, will not let their audiences down this year either. So you will get to see Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag on October 12, in a near Dussehra release.
With a mega star lineup, the film stars Jaya Bachchan, Rani, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kunal Kapoor and Abhishek.
November 30 will see the release of the last Yash Raj film for 2007. Aaja Nachle will be a directorial debut for noted cinematographer Anil Mehta. What's more important, it will be Madhuri Dixit's comeback film.
The production house plans to kick off 2008 in grand style with Tashan. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the screenplay and dialogue writer of mega hits Dhoom and Dhoom:2, it will star Akshay Kumar and Saif, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
This year will be memorable for YRF for yet another reason: The banner plans to move completely to the studio style of functioning - on a par with Fox, Warner Bros and Universal.

We’re not making films to win Oscars: Mani Ratman

Diganta Guha

Kolkata, March 2, 2007
Filmmaker Mani Ratnam is known to be media shy. However, recently at Cinema Paradiso, a DVD rental library where he launched P365 (this means you have the DVD of a new release every day), he could not avoid the media.

With his film Guru doing well at the box office, film-centric questions were top of the agenda. The question that Guru is based on late industrialist Dhirubai Ambani’s life still remains. A strict “No” is his answer.
Doesn’t it irritate him that a subject he has put his heart and soul into is being given a different interpretation? “As a director you have to be ready for such things. It is not really disturbing,” says the filmmaker whose third Hindi film broke the jinx after Dil Se.. and Yuva flopped at the B-O.
We move on to talk about Abhishek Bachchan, for whose career Ratnam’s Yuva proved to be a turning point. And Junior B hasn’t looked back ever since.

Visibly embarrassed, yet proud of his actor, the director says, “Abhishek is growing as an actor and maturing every day. Guru was a difficult job for him but he has done justice to the character.”

What about Mithun Chakraborthy, who is delighted with his role in Guru? “Oh! It was great fun, but he did have some problems cutting his hair short,” says the filmmaker with his trademark smile.
Ratnam wants to look ahead. “I will be starting Lajjo this year. It’s still at the scripting stage,” he informs about his film with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, adding, “I’m not making Mahabharata.”

Ratnam is happy that the film industry did so well last year and hopes “it does better this year too”. However, unlike most of his colleagues, the filmmaker, whose movie Nayakan was India’s official entry at the Academy Awards in 1987, doesn’t seem caught up in the Oscar fever.

“Do we really need Hollywood to give us a stamp of approval? We’re not making films to win Oscars,” he says.
A lot of things seem to be happening in the film industry. So, are we heading in the right direction?

“We are on the verge of a huge change and filmmaking is becoming accessible to a lot of people. The gap between the user and the maker would be much less — it will be like literature. Anyone who wants to can. It’s just that he has to do it,” he concludes. The message is clear.

Abhishek Bachchan
What has been keeping Abhishek Bachchan busy, after the Drona-derail? Well, AB's baby has donned a chauffeur's role. He has been generously taking his pals for joy rides on his brand new Bentley (never mind the bumpy roads). One of our trusted sources informs, "The actor drives around Juhu every day in his new machine." However, Bachchan Jr is quite reluctant when it comes to trusting his pals with the steering wheel. "You're not getting it, baby!" is his curt reply, when they ask to drive his car.

Abhi & Ash in great company Click here to add this article to My Clips
Huzan Fraser and Beena Menon of Tourism Ireland have made a unique offer to Amitabh Bachchan. In fact, the proposal is for Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, but has rightly been sent to the Big B for approval.

In a letter to Bachchan Sr., Tourism Ireland has made an offer for their [Abhi-Ash] honeymoon in Ireland. The letter states: “We are really happy to learn about the forthcoming wedding of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Although we understand that the wedding dates are yet to be finalized, we would like to make an offer for their honeymoon in Ireland.

“Ireland has been host to some of the most celebrated weddings and honeymoons in the world. Tourism Ireland would be happy to offer air tickets to Ireland with accommodation at Ashford Castle. Some of the eminent personalities who have stayed at Ashford Castle are George V of England, President and Mrs. Reagan, Brad Pitt, Pierce Brosnan, Fred Astaire, Rod Stewart and Russell Crowe.

“Ashford is a 13th century castle located half-an-hour away from Galway on the shores of Lough Corrib. This was originally the home of the renowned Guinness family. We do hope the couple will accept this offer.”

Wow!

Abhishek Bachchan : Amitabh Bachchan's SON and Bollywood's future MEGA STAR?!!

If you ask any Indian to name some of the most fortunate people of his/er country, then there is a very high probability that the name Abhishek Bachchan would come up. Why? Because he is the son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri; two of the most respected and powerful celebrities of Indian cinema. Born on February 5 1976, Abhishek studied in Bombay Scottish School , Jamnabai Narsee School , Modern School and Aiglon College . For higher education, he went to Boston University but did not finish his study. He followed his parents’ footsteps and entered into films. He may not have achieve his father’s level of success but he has proved himself a capable actor.

Abhishek’s debut film Refugee was released in 2000. The director of the movie, J. P. Dutta, met Abhishek in a party and gave him a token money of Rs.101. Refugee, like most of the movies of J.P. Dutta, deals with Hindustan Pakistan issue. Kareena Kapoor played the female lead role. It was also her debut movie. The film did poorly.
Abhishek appeared in the lead roles in a number of movies between 2000 and 2003 and none of them did well. Till 2003, Abhishek had to struggle a lot. Many people said that he did not have any acting skill and mainly copied his father. Abhishek Bachchan’s luck changed in 2004. In Mani Ratnam’s movie Yuva, he played the role a hoodlum, Lallan and proved that he was not just Amitabh Bachchan’s son but could also act very well. For his outstanding performance in Yuva, he won the Filmfare Award for best supporting actor and all other awards for supporting actor in 2004. Followed by Yuva, Dhoom, Dus, Bunty Aur Bubli, Sarkar, Bluff master turned Abhishek into one of the most promising actors in the present day Bollywood.

In 2007, Abhishek Bachchan’s first film Guru did phenomenal business. It is the first solo hit in Abhishek’s career.

Abhishek maintained a clean image. There are no major scandals. In 2001, he was engaged with Karisma Kapoor but it was broken. In 2007, Abhishek got engaged with Aishwarya Rai.
Being the son of the most famous actor in Bollywood, Abhishek faces serious pressure. Coming out of his father’s image and getting established as a fine actor is not an easy job. People have lots of expectations from Abhishek Bachchan because he is Amitabh Bachchan’s son. However, I feel that this is unfair. Just because Amitabh is very famous does not mean that Abhishek has to be equally famous. Besides, the people who say this should remember that the present scenario of Bollywood is very different than that when Amitabh Bachchan came into films. Abhishek is very young and he has a long career. He has a good start in this year. Let’s see what waits for him.

Amitabh 'proud of son'

Amitabh's proud of his son
Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan is proud of his son Abhishek's acting achievements and his selection of roles, The Asian Age newspaper has reported.
"I was never this adventurous. And had I been so, I doubt if I would've been able to carry it off with such conviction," the star said of his son. "I never got the opportunity and also maybe I was never so brave."
The 31-year-old is one of India's best known actors and recently starred in Guru, a rags-to-riches story said to be based on the life of late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani, one of India's most powerful businessmen who built a Fortune 500 petrochemicals company.
He's also seen success as a motorcycle riding tough police officer in Dhoom 2 and a sensitive husband in Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna.
His father, 64, known affectionately as the Big B, first emerged as a movie star in the 1970s. He has since acted in about 160 movies.

Will Abhishek Bachchan be able to break the Bollywood jinx?
13th Feb 2007  14.01 IST
By Agencies

It's the great Bollywood jinx – sons and daughters of superstars losing out to children of actors who never made it to the top slot or to complete outsiders. So will Abhishek Bachchan break the big jinx and prove to the world that the gene pool does work after all?

Dev Anand – the evergreen hero of Bollywood – is still going strong at 83 but his son Sunil had a disastrous debut in ‘Anand Hi Anand’. Dev Anand later said, the "launch" was a mistake because he "overshadowed" his son. The legend's wife Kalpana Karthik too was a much sought after actress.

Rajinder Kumar 's son Kumar Gaurav debuted in the hit ‘Love Story’ directed and produced by his father. But Kumar Jr, remembered as a one-hit wonder, had to bow out of the race just as soon.

Though the sons of doyen of Indian cinema Prithviraj Kapoor – Raj Kapoor , Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor – more or less lived up to their father's reputation, most of their children offered little to carry on the legacy.

Raj Kapoor's sons, Randhir Kapoor , Rishi Kapoor and Rajeev Kapoor , never filled the space occupied by their iconic father. Though Rajeev got a perfect launch in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, he could not even match up to his brothers.

Rishi did reasonably well, especially when he teamed with Neetu Singh whom he later married. The verdict on their son Ranbir Kapoor , who like all star kids is working on a dream project, will be out soon.

The superstar of the 1970s, Rajesh Khanna , broke a million hearts when he married Dimple Kapadia , a star in her own right, but their daughters Twinkle Khanna and Rinkie Khanna could never equal the couple's star status.

Twinkle went back to making designer candles and running an interior decoration business before settling down to marry action star Akshay Kumar .

The kids of another superstar couple, Dharmendra and Hema Malini , have not been able to match their parents' expectations. The "Dharam Garam" charm could not be sustained by Sunny Deol , Bobby Deol or even his nephew Abhay Deol . Hema's daughter Esha Deol is a pale shadow of the "dream girl" of yesteryears.

Sunil Dutt and Nargis' son Sanjay Dutt did better than many others, but was never able to consistently remain in the top bracket despite the occasional big hit.

Similarly, Shashi Kapoor's kids Sanjana and Kunal and more recently "Jumping Jack" Jeetendra 's son Tusshar Kapoor and Vinod Khanna 's sons Akshaye Khanna and Rahul Khanna never hit the major league.

On the other hand, filmmakers are vying with each other to launch sons of actors who never belonged to the top league. Hrithik Roshan , the son of Rakesh Roshan , is among the top-ranking actors of Bollywood who can command a hefty price.

Though Randhir could never make a lasting mark in tinsel world, his daughters Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor have made it to the top and are keeping the Kapoor banner flying high. Even though Karisma, like many star kids, never got a dream debut, she made it big. For Kareena, it was more or less smooth sailing.

The jinx seems to extend to other departments of Bollywood. Lyricist Gulzar and actress Rakhi 's daughter Meghna Gulzar hasn't quite carved a niche for herself. The genius of Javed Akhtar or the versatility of Mahesh Bhatt is yet to be reflected in their children.

Hrithik, Kareena and Kajol 's parents were never in Bollywood's A list.

So will Abhishek, the star son of mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan who debuted in Refugee with Karisma six years ago and now is all set to marry the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai be able to break the big jinx and become the next Big B of Bollywood?

Marriage...that sounds so scary : Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek Bachchan Speaks To Subhash K Jha. You turned a year older.
Yes, 31.

Is this birthday more special because you're getting married soon?
A birthday is a birthday. I was working through it. That's what I
like to do on my birthdays. I like to spend my birthday with my
family if I can.

When is the marriage going to happen?
Nothing is decided yet. I've left it to our parents to decide. We're
ready any time they are.

But it's not happening in February?
No.

You are currently shooting for Drona in Bikaner.
It's a special-effects film. Interesting, because it's a new genre
and therefore never done before by me. The film will have lots of
special effects. And my mom plays my mom in the film, though she has
a very brief role.

We shot together and it was great fun. Actually we did a Bengali
film Desh together. I spoke a bit of Bengali in the film. The Drona
director Goldie Behl is family. His sister Shristi and Goldie have
grown up with me. Both mom and dad have worked for their banner.

So it's like a home-coming. This is my second film with Goldie.
Great fun.

Why did Goldie take so long to make another film after Bas Itna Sa
Khwab Hai?
That was his personal choice, and we should respect that. He wanted
to be sure of what he wanted to make. Both Goldie and I have changed
a lot as persons. The conviction will show up in Drona. We've
finished about sixty percent.

Guru has got you unbelievable applause.
Unfortunately because I'm in Bikaner I'm kind of cut away from
what's going on in Mumbai. But it's great to know a TOI editorial
has been written about it. Guru is a very special film. It's so
wonderful to know that our hard work has paid off.

The audience has picked up on the emotions of the theme. The
boxoffice collections convey that. When I saw the film first I was
very inspired by the character. For the first time in my career I
stopped being an actor and looked at the film as a member of the
audience.

You worked hard on the body language and the girth of your
character in Guru?
In today's day and age the audience is so well- versed in cinema you
can't get away with sleep-walking through your role. The audience
wants to be sucked into the world of make-believe. This kind of
dedication is required from all actors. Guru has been a very
demanding and very rewarding film.

One had to jump into it wholeheartedly. I'd hate to look back and
think I didn't work hard enough on Guru, or any of my roles. There's
always room for improvement. But I'd hate to be in a situation where
I look back and say I should've worked better.

How does your dad's vocal appreciation of Guru make you feel?
If I may be allowed to sound a little pompous, let me say I didn't
care what the rest of the world would say. His reaction would be
more than enough for me. Did his reaction embarrass me ? Not not at
all. Praise is what we live for.

My father's opinion means the world to me. He isn't only a father
but also someone whom I consider to be the best actor in the world.
To be honest I don't care what the film's fate would've been. His
positive reaction to my work us enough. What more could I ask for?

As an actor I crave to make my parents happy. Thank God I got the
opportunity in Guru. As a son I firmly believe I wouldn't want to
come in the way of a father's praise. I'm not a father. So I don't
know what that emotion is. One day I hope to be father.

Then I'll know the same pride that my father does. As a father he's
allowed to express his appreciation for his son, isn't he? And I
love him even more for it.

A lot of people feel he's over-doing the praise for you
I think they're being very mean. Yes, he's Mr Amitabh Bachchan. But
first and foremost he's a father. People who grudge him a father's
pride are not nice. Pl don't take that moment away from him. You've
the right to express your comments on him as an actor. Please leave
him alone when he' s playing a father.

A lot of people are disappointed by your performance in Dhoom 2.
I'm very proud of the film. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. As for my
subdued performance, as you called it, I had to go by the way the
character was established in the first Dhoom. I was just carrying
forward my character.

Are you a more careful selector of parts after Guru?
I've never selected parts. Parts have selected me.

Satisfied with life?
I don't think an actor can ever be fully satisfied. I'm very excited
about the work that I'm doing.

Looking forward to your role as a householder?
That sounds so scary. It's a new dawn, a new day, new
challenges….I' m looking forward to it. God has been very kind.

kishore

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai
Couple of the year!

Will they, won’t they?’ is the question on everybody’s lips as Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan prepare for their walk around the sacred fires.

When AB Jr popped the question to Lady Ash soon after the New York premiere of Guru, the timing couldn’t have been more appropriate.

There had been constant speculation about the Guru and his girlfriend having already tied the knot in a temple in Varanasi, so Bachchan responded by making it official but not-quite-at-the-altar yet!

The speculation now continues from the wedding date to the venue, and even their oh-so-expensive outfits. Till the couple actually do get hitched, there’s little to no chance all this conjecture will go away. Do it already, you guys!

For me Aishwarya is real: Abhishek Bachchan

Khalid Mohamed

Mumbai, February 9, 2007

Get this. I’m skating on thin ice, professional/ personal. He’s my baba, I’m
his khaala (don’t know why he gave me that nickname but it stuck).

There’s been this robustly mutual regard methinks.. ever since he was the
Bambi-eyed kid watching me interview his dad. How time zips.

The nation and more so, the media’s curiosity is at its peak about his upcoming
marriage to Aishwarya Rai, in my eyes the most beautiful woman in the
world (after my mum, that is).

To cut to the chase, I’m at his neatnik office in Juhu. On the stairs, I pass by Boss Bachchan feeling oh-I’d-like-tochat- with-him. . but what to do?..I have another job to perform. How wonderful, it would have been if a KM Jr was doing an AB Jr q and a. Aaah, never mind that silly story of my life.

Abhishek Bachchan is across a desk, I’ve organised my mutinous back in the sit-right posture, I escalate an eyebrow at the much-photographed headband keeping Junior’s long hairlocks in a semblance of order..to ask..

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in a still from the film Guru
What’s with that hair-ishtyle Baba?
Hopefully, it’s there only till April for Drona. You think I like maintaining my hair like this? It’s quite cumbersome. I was shooting for Shaad’s (Ali Khan) Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, with long hair and a moustache. Goldie saw it, liked it and wanted me to keep it longer..so.

You look more in shape after the kilos you put on for Guru.
Not entirely. I’d gone right till 91 kg.. now I’m 84 kg, must lose five more.

How did you sustain the look for different age spans of Guru?
It was shot chronologically from start to finish in three months, that helped to sustain the physical aspect. It was challenging.

What do actors mean by challenging?
Anything that’s a cakewalk isn’t satisfying. Like you wouldn’t be doing this interview if it wasn’t challenging. .like you have to match wits with the person you’re interviewing.

Actually Mani sir (Ratnam) was planning quite another film.. on the life of a criminal in Manchester. He faces adversities, redeems himself.. halfway through the script he felt it wasn’t what he wanted to make.

So Mani sir switched to a veiled biography of Dhirubhai Ambani?
This wasn’t mentioned to me ever.

But every character in the film was drawn from Mr Ambani’s life.
That’s your perception. Anyone who has seen Guru will tell you that.

Then it’s their perception.
But no, there was no intention to make a biopic. Perhaps certain characteristics were drawn from various people which Mani sir always does.

Hello, didn’t you have a role model?
Khaala, no. To be honest I have often drawn inspiration from reallife people. I’ve never admitted this but the Lallan of Yuva  was inspired by Amar Singhji, his confidence, and some of his mannerisms. And if you really must know, in Guru I was totally inspired by my dear friend and former producer Vashu Bhagnani.

Excuse me, say that again.
Yes absolutely, I drew from the way Vashuji smiles, laughs, loves to keep serving food and drinks, always sprightly, on-the-go, eager..someone who can’t sit or stand still. I hope he doesn’t get upset if he reads this.

Huh? He should feel flattered.
I hope he does.

Vashu Bhagnani doesn’t wear pinstriped suits. Dhirubhai Ambani did. (Sombrely) Mr Ambani was never given to me as a reference point.

How did the Ambanis react to the film?
They loved it.

No talks on the similarities?
Anilji said he enjoyed the film..so did Tina aunty..but then she could have been biased, she’s been fond of me ever since I was a kid.

That last soliloquy in Guru, how was that one shot done?
In six different ways and speeds. It was rehearsed for a day, shot in a day. It had to be done in one take for the fluidity of the performance.

Aishwarya and Abhishek got engaged on January 14.
Would you term the Guru performance as your career-best?
I can’t be a judge of this. I’ve done 30 films to date..each one of them has been special. Guru has collected Rs 60 crore gross domestic..it has got glowing reviews from critics who have more knowledge about cinema than I do..what more could an actor want? Money. It comes and goes. As long as I can go to bed every night peacefully.

You could get a better bed.
Not possible..I sleep on the ground because of my bad back.

What does acting mean to you?
I don’t want to know. Or else, it’ll cease to be magical.

What does love mean to you?
Very clever, khaala. I don’t know much about love.

That’ll make a super heading.. “I don’t know much about love.” Come on, every one knows what love is.
Even I do. (Pause) Love is absolutely unconditional.

Not bad. And hello, why has Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of Dhoom, been badmouthing you?
Has he?

Now you’re acting.

Have I ever lied to you? I’ve been travelling, I haven’t read his statements. See, he’s entitled to his opinions. Maybe I’ll have to work harder for him next time..if there’s a next time.

Weren’t you totally subverted in Dhoom 2 ?
The first Dhoom was my first success, ACP Jai Dixit and Ali had to be a part of the sequel. In any case, Dhoom has been about villains. John Abraham was tremendous in the first part, the next one had to be bigger and badder the way it is in the Superman and Batman series.

I knew what was happening..no matter..it was terrific to work with my childhood friends Hrithik and Uday..and of course Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai.

Who? Say that again..you mean Ash.
Aishwarya Rai.

There has been talk that you’re playing a superhero in Drona to upstage Krrish?
I don’t know where such stories start from. We’re not catering to each other, we’re making films for the audience. Krrish was outstanding. In fact, I’m a die-hard fan of Rakesh Roshanji’s films right from Khudgarz, he has that special magical quality which was once a hallmark of Manmohan Desai.

Listen I want to go back to Ash if I may.
Aishwarya you mean..she’s a friend, she’s my fiancée.

How did you propose to her? Evidently successfully.
Khaala you’re not going to trap me.

Tell me about the special moment just before proposing marriage to her. Wonderful try khaala..but that will always be between her and me.

Are you in love?
Obviously. Stop sparring with me. What’s within my heart and house doesn’t have to go outside.

Chalo, can I ask you why you’re not in Rakeysh Mehra’s Delhi 6 ?
Unfortunately, I had committed the winter months to Goldie for Drona. Rakeysh is a buddy, we’re looking at two projects to do together. Actually, I was to do my first film with him — Samjhauta Express. But then he opted for Aks.

Didn’t he offer you Rang de Basanti?
Yes, he did, it was called Paint it Yellow then. I was incapable of understanding all the nuances of the film at that time. I do regret not doing it, that’s life.

Aha, listen I want to go back to Ash if I may.
Stop it khaala. Can’t.

Listen I want to go back..
For me Aishwarya is real.

Hmm. Fine, are you planning to do films together?
Yes Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar 2. And the Dharma production directed by Tarun Mansukhani and another by Rohan Sippy? Yes..we hope to start on Tarun’s film in June.

Will you allow Ash to continue acting?
Who am I to stop anyone from acting? Why is there a huge debate on this? I’m the son of an actor, my mother is an actor. Get it?

Aren’t you a bit pampered?
I think I’m loved, not pampered. A bit of a kid? For you maybe. There’s a child in everyone, there should be.

How do you feel about getting married?
Fine, okay.

What about that penthouse on Bandra, Carter Road, that’s being built for you?
Oof, that’s not my house please ..it’s my chacha’s house. I’m very happy staying with my parents.. thanks.. now khaala stop!

Abhishek Bachchan may have been greeted only with a bouquet by his
fiancee Aishwarya Rai on his 31st birthday, but his father Amitabh
Bachchan surprised him with a Rs 1.7 crore white Bentley car as a
gift.

Aishwarya, who was unable to go to Bikaner to usher in the birthday,
was present at the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport to greet him on his
arrival in the city.

Abhishek later went for a drive in the new car with his lady love and
soon after drove back to the Bachchan residence in suburban Juhu.

Aishwarya's gift, if any besides the bouquet, remains a guarded
secret.

"Her gift to Abhishek is too personal and confidential, " Aishwarya's
secretary Hari Singh said.

Earlier, Amitabh Bachchan along with Samajwadi Party leader Amar
Singh flew to Junagarh Fort in Rajasthan where Abhishek was shooting
his forthcoming film Drona, to cut the birthday cake at midnight.

Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya could not join them there but were able
to meet Abhishek as he returned to the city by evening.

When asked about why Aishwarya did not join Abhishek at Junagarh on
the 'D' day, Singh refused to comment saying it was a personal
matter.

Big B gifts Abhishek a Bentley!
Abhishek Bachchan, who has been more in news than ever this year, celebrated his birthday on Monday, February 5. The celebrations took place in style at the Bachchan residence Jalsa at Juhu, Mumbai.

Abhishek, who was busy shooting in Rajasthan for Drona, dropped in just to be with his family on the special day. As crowds waited in anticipation outside the bungalow with gifts and bouquets, AB and his baby made a grand entry. A humble Amitabh said to the crowds that his son only needed blessings, no gifts. As the charming actor turned 31 yesterday, papa dearest decided to give him a very special surprise. Amitabh Bachchan gifted his son a brilliant white Bentley. It is said that the Rs. 2 crore worth gift had a Delhi license plate.

After the celebrations, the Bachchan family left for Lilavati Hospital at Bandra to meet up with Teli Bachchan. Abhishek’s fiancé Aishwarya Rai was also present there. Of course, she did not leave without taking a test drive in her fiancé’s brand new car!

Abhishek - sensitive to the bone, rough on the surface
Tuesday February 6 2007 00:00 IST
IANS
MUMBAI: The first time I spoke to Abhishek Bachchan, who turns 31 on Monday, was also the first time he spoke to the press.

"You're the one person dad (Amitabh) has asked me to speak to," he told me. There was no trace of nervousness in his voice, no tentativeness and certainly no fear of the unknown.

This was a week before the release of J P Dutta's Refugee (2000), his debut vehicle. Much water has flown under the bridge since then.

Abhishek and I share a very special bond.

Chronologically I come right in the middle of Abhishek and his dad. So, I am able to share a warm bonding with both.

Abhishek is hard to beat in arguments. He talks you down with such intense velocity that you are left looking helplessly around for help. The last time it happened, I looked pleadingly at his dad for help.

Amitabh smiled and shrugged, like a referee who had left the fighters to their own devices.

Here's the test for how much Abhishek cares for you. If he takes you on verbally any time anywhere, he's a buddy.

The gentler side is kept for critical occasions. I remember being stuck in my hotel room with a drunk, badly behaved enfant-terrible actor who refused to leave. I had met Abhishek in the lobby of the hotel earlier in the evening.

"Help me!" I had SMS-ed from my room to Abhishek down below. Within seconds Abhishek rescued me from my misery by calling up the sozzled superstar, and sat with him in the hotel's coffee shop till the wee hours of the morning, hearing the blather of an inebriated brat.

To this day I wonder if Abhishek endured that night's verbal assault only because of me?

This young scion of the Bachchan household does go out on his limb. Extremely attuned to the other person's sensitivities, Abhishek outwardly seems to be constantly sardonic.

His sensitive side isn't there for everyone to see. I've seen him at the start of his career being pushed around and ridiculed by self-styled movie critics who predicted Abhishek would never make it.

He held his own admirably. But sometimes the hurt and confusion of trying to live up to his parents' reputation shone through.

As the flops poured out Abhishek once told me, "I think people are very confused about what they want from me. It's a two-way sword, which will hang on my head for the rest of my life. I think it will take time for people to understand what I am all about and what they want from me.

"In the meanwhile I'll just carry on doing what I want to do and what I believe in doing. If I falter, then there's no point in being an actor. Sometimes I feel people don't understand what I'm doing on screen."

I remember a colleague warning me that I am making myself look ridiculous with my constant support for Abhishek. Two years later he was spotted waiting for two hours outside Abhishek's van at a studio.

I've seen Abhishek go through the worst emotional hurt of his life. Not that he ever speaks too much about his personal life. But during that time I saw his raw hurt.

It was a heartbreaking moment. And I wondered when he'd get out of it. But Abhishek snapped out of his pain before friends had the chance to get overly concerned.

Today, Abhishek is at his peak, sharing shoes and success with his iconic father. The prolonged period of struggle has done Abhishek a world of good. He's cautious about stardom, adulation and appellations such as 'sexy' and 'iconic'.

It's amazing how much Abhishek sounds like his father when he speaks about success. They both believe one must respect success, but not be a slave to it. They both have a penchant for picking the proper words in their interviews without sounding rehearsed or laboured.

Of course, Abhishek is far less guarded off the record. But even with his closest friends he keeps a certain distance.

You can't step into the very private enclave in Abhishek's heart, no matter who you are.

Leave that bit aside and you're welcome into his world. The warmth that you see in his personality on screen connects so instantaneously with audiences because it isn't faked.

Abhishek can never harm because he doesn't know how to.

is coming down this evening though its only for a few hours.

I need to cut this short as we are having riots here in bangalore!
So guys I will be talking to Rosie Singh during this week to try to
set up a meeting for later this month. We are surely gonna meet him
but it may just happen a little later. We have put in a lot of

well.

I will keep you all updated on what happens next. I was working on

Abhishek could be a ghar jamai...
[ 16 Jan, 2007 2310hrs ISTTIMES NEWS NETWORK ]

Will Aishwarya Rai own the property too? ( TOI )

BANGALORE: If Aishwarya Rai's Bunt community customs prevail,
Abhishek Bachchan could be the 'ghar jamai' of the Rai family, while
she will own the property and run the house!

For, as per some Bunt customs, the girl's family gives a huge dowry
to the boy's and brings him into their house. Delighted with the
match, Bangalore Bunts association secretary Amarnath Hegde told
TOI: "We are very happy. And as per our custom, as a matrilineal
community, we are welcoming Abhishek into our community. Our
daughter has not gone out, he has come into us."

The Bunts, a land-owning 15-lakh strong community of agriculturists,
spread almost equally in coastal Karnataka and Mumbai, are
worshippers of the 'bhoothanatha', a spirit god. If Aishwarya's
community has its way, she will get married in the typical Bunt
style, complete with a mantap decorated by arecanut bunches and
jasmine. The engagement ceremony takes place in the bride's house.

As per custom, Aishwarya should wear a red or maroon Kancheevaram
saree, jasmine-studded plait, a 'patti' around the waist, 'vanki' on
the arm, green and red bangles, a 'mundole' on her forehead, a bunch
of pearls at her upper ear and a seven-diamond stud in her ears. The
groom wears a 'kache-panche' (traditional dhoti) and a white shirt,
though modern Bunts even wear 'sherwanis'.
