Abhishek talks from LA

It’s amazing what a power of three can do to a film and the Tour. Yes, I am talking about the Bachchan family, Amitabh, Abhishek, and Aishwarya. First it was their film Sarkar Raj that grossed almost £400,000 in the U.K. and now it’s their Unforgettable Tour which is selling like hot cakes in America. Not surprised to find out that all the shows are almost house full, I was more than curious to know Mr. Bachchan’s recovery. So what if one of the power house took a back seat, we still had the power of three. This time it was Jayaji, Abhishek, and Aishwarya who took over the proceedings. Hours before his first live performance in L.A. Abhishek Bachchan sounds upbeat…and why not? He is having a great response from the Tour so far, is highly excited about his next release Drona, is desperate to perform in front of his audience in London and of course, boosting with happiness to see his dad, our very own Big B, fully recovered. All this and much more from Abhi in this exclusive chat from L.A with Bollywood Hungama’s Devansh Patel.

So, how’s dad and what do the doctors say?
Nothing, dad’s good now. He is just at the rehearsals at the moment. He is back on his feet. He was fine yesterday and the day before. He had a bit of a cold but I forced him to stay in bed because I didn’t want it to spread into something which was uncontrollable. So as a son, I demanded that he stay in his room and locked him up. Dad has got a tendency that he pushes himself so much but thankfully he is fine now.

From Toronto to Trinidad to L.A. How’s the journey been so far?
The journey has been awesome. The reactions have been over-whelming. I never expected to see this kind of reaction. We were told that every centre, which was to host the show, was pretty much sold out except for the European leg because we haven’t come there yet. But America is completely sold out. And all this is just so wonderful because when you get on to the stage and see the audiences reactions, you know that you are not performing for yourself but for them. This Tour is for the audiences and will always be.

First the unforgettable Sarkar Raj collections in the U.K and then this Tour. Looks like London’s the hot-spot for the Bachchan’s.
London is a wonderful city. A city that is very close to our hearts. We spent a lot of time there as a family during holidays, we’ve done a lot of work over there and we’re very glad that we’re going to be coming to London in August. One thing I’ve been saying to the members of the media that London is definitely going to be the biggest and the best. So we’re saving that for the last.

And what else are you doing in your spare time?
Well, there isn’t much spare time because of the nature of the Tour. The minute you reach a new destination, you first get into all this media and promotional activities after which it’s just down to rehearsals. But it’s also important for you to know that nobody is taking this Tour lightly. Everybody is working very hard to put up the best show. We do realize that it is a demanding schedule but the endeavor was to put up the biggest and the best show that we could possibly do and I believe we’ve got such a show on our hands.

Could you recall one unforgettable incident from your Tour so far?
I think that was when the first time I came on stage in Toronto, the minute the lights come on, I just went blank. I forgot everything and I had to pass through the audience. I froze because the audience was all around and they were jumping around trying to reach out and touch me and shouting slogans. I was totally blanked out. Then finally, my manager Mambo Sharma, who was also from the U.K pulled me and said, “Come on bro, you’re on stage, move it”. And I replied, “Wait a second. Let me enjoy this a bit more.” But it was truly unforgettable. And the unforgettable moment was that I forgot everything.

Mr. Bachchan on his blog stated that Trinidad is like a homecoming for you guys. When you were a five year old, you performed along side your dad on stage for the first time in Trinidad. So how far did that memory go?
Dad used to do a track from his earlier film, Mr. Natwarlal, called, ‘Mere paas aao mere dosto’ in which he brought my sister and me on to the stage to introduce us to the audience. Now that’s a good 25 to 27 years ago. So it was wonderful to go back to Trinidad and win the place in the audiences hearts where we had been before for such shows.

Every Bollywood actor would once dream of dancing with Madhuri Dixit. Any plan?
I have plans of dancing with Madhuriji on the stage in L.A tomorrow night. So the plan is working.

For the first time while working, the Bachchans won’t be missing each other. But do you miss the hot Indian food?
No. Wizcraft made sure that wherever we travel, we were very well fed with our Indian ghar ka khaana. Can’t miss that for sure!

We are also hearing rumors that Amsterdam isn’t going to be the last city where you guys will be wrapping the Tour on the August 29. What else is up the sleeve?
Well, currently there are talks to do another show in Dusseldorf in Germany as they have requested us to do the show there. Plus, the second leg does start post September which will be in the Middle East, Far East and Australia and then we move on to Africa. So the Unforgettable Tour will be continuing. The exact dates though are not confirmed yet.

Everyone is talking about Big B, Abhi and Ash on the stage together. The family is incomplete without Jayaji. Is she going to shake a leg too?
She is on the Tour with us and she will be coming on stage and perform with us. You have to wait and see what song we perform on. Can’t tell you now.

After performing some hot numbers on stage in hot locales, how do you plan to cool yourself down after all this tiring schedule?
To be very honest, when you’re out there in the audience, you don’t think about the heat or the exertion. Their love and support just carries you through every hurdle. You can’t think of cooling yourself down. On my part, the minute this Tour gets over, I’ll be back in Mumbai finishing my film Dostana and getting ready to release Drona which releases on October 2.

How’s the response of the Drona trailer been? Any news?
It’s a teaser trailer and the first look into the film Drona. The response has been really huge. On the Drona website, www.dronathefilm.in, the response has been fantastic. Even in the kind of fan mail I’m getting, people are loving the trailer which is great because we’ve worked hard on it and it’s wonderful to see the audience liking the work we’ve done.

We’ve also seen couple of exclusive pictures of you, John and Priyanka from Miami while filming Dostana. It’s all looking great. Now that you’re in the U.S, does it bring back the Dostana days?
Well yeah. I was in Miami not too long ago shooting Dostana. We transited through Miami on our way to Trinidad and Tobago. It does bring back those good days.

Any last message for your fans who are going to see you next month performing in London?
To the audiences in London, we are willing to meet you all. We will hopefully make an unforgettable evening for you. It’s a wonderful show and you can be rest assured of a lot of entertainment and a lot of variety. I’m really looking forward to perform at the O2 arena. Love you all.

Abhishek Bachchan “I have performed in Toronto and the Carribeans, and both were awesome. Its really tough to say which was one better”, opening lines from Abhishek Bachchan as he talks of his first stage performance for the first time.

“Just before the show started, the entire cast and crew got together and said a prayer. As soon as that was over I blanked out! I could not for the world of me remember any step of mine. Shaimak told me to just go out there and have a ball, so I did. Thankfully everything came back just in time and the performance went off without any glitches”, confesses the actor who was performing for the first time outside the comfort of his film fraternity.

On sharing the stage with his father and wife for the Kajra re number, AB says, “It was great fun. It took us back to the IIFA awards in Amsterdam where we performed together on stage for the first time”.

But Ash who is a great dancer did have something to say on his performance, “Initially, she couldn’t say much because she was on stage immediately after me. So by the time I came off the stage she was already in position for her entry. But after she finished she told me that she thought it was good. Although I felt she was way better.”

And with the American leg kicking off in a big way, AB concludes, “Madhuriji joined us for this leg. We’re all very excited to have her with us.”

Abhishek Bachchan My favourite pastime on the sets of a film, when I am not shooting, is to go through DVD copies of my films. I like to watch it time and again to see if I could have done a particular scene in a different manner.

My vanity van is well equipped with a DVD and plasma tv and the acoustics are surround. Its in the inside of this mobile car that I play my films. On the sets of Dus, I was studying my performance in Yuva.

Lallan singh¢s character was a huge challenge. The diction had to be go with the body language. I also had to put on weight and yet look tough.

I am right now shooting for Dostana and am going through Guru. Guru was a tough film, but then I also had a fantastic director.

It¢s a good way to pass your time in between shots and at the same time, an opportunity to perfect your art. I want to be a good actor and do good films and I believe seeing your performance and finding ways to perfect it, can only help me grow as an actor.

(As told to Chuman Das)

Subject:: The SRK- Big B Rivalry Saga...

Hello dearest friends. As we all know, the rivalry between SRK and
Big B is not a new thing here in the industry. But anyway, here's
something fun to share with all of you about them.

1. Mohabbatein

Aish-Big B-SRK trio was so fantastic. Just imagine, a rivalry
between Raj Aryan Malhotra annd Narayan Shankar was being potrayed
best in this movie. Years of cold war, later Raj Aryan came back to
Gurukul to fix out things... Although Aish was the ghost, she played
quite an important role in trying to make his father and beloved
ones back together.

Verdict: SRK became the next Gurukul principal with new legacy but
this time, together with Big B. Also, with Aish at the end of the
movie.

Question: In reality, can they be together again?

2. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

This time it's SRK-Big B plus Kapoor & Roshan. Ten years of
separation from your parents would definitely be the tough times for
Rahul Raichand (sounds like Rai + Bachchan). Deep in both heart of
SRK and Big B in this movie, they wanted to patch up with each
other. But due to a little bit of misunderstanding, they were not
seeing each other for 10 years. Yet, at the end of the story,
through the help from Kareena and Hrithik, both were getting back
together with both Big B and SRK admitting their mistakes.

Verdict: They live happily ever after... After all, na juda honge
hum, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham!

Question: In reality, do Roshans and Kapoors can make both Big B and
SRK cworking together as a team again?

3. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

In this movie, we've got to see at the end of the story how Big B
died, I guess tragically... He did not share good relationship with
SRK in this movie but son, Rishi (Abhi), was forgiving type of
person. He decided to yet, patch up with Maya in the movie, but this
time only as a family because he had found someone new.

Verdict: We could see so many regrets in the movie with a little
happiness at the end.

Question: Will we wait until Big B is no more in this world then SRK
wants to befriends him again?

4. Paheli and Bhootnath (This one is funny)

In Paheli, Amitji is the genius who solved the mystery of two
identical individuals, which happened to be SRK and SRK's bhoot. But
in Bhootnath, Amitji is now the bhoot!! LOL!

Question: What does bhoot has to do with SRK and Big B?

CONCLUSION: Rivalry or no rivalry, I found out that these two stars
are amazing. They are the superstar and they popularize the
industry. Yet, rivalry does not bring any benefit to anyone although
they bags awards or box-offices movies individually. Somehow, I
would love to see them together again. I AM TIRED OF THE MEDIA
FAKING OUT THEIR RIVALRIES. Whatever it is, I still think Abhi is
the best because he is the non-allied-to-any-rivalry-in-bollywood
person. Love you, abhi!

Bachchans and Ramgopal Varma in Hyderabad on Sarkar Raj tour
Home > News > Functions
Hyderabad
June 15, 2008

It was a rousing reception to the Bachchans when they arrived in Pearl City, Hyderabad, in their first leg of “Idea Yatra for Sarkar Raj”, Sunday night in Pearl City, Hyderabad. Amitabh Bachhan accompanied by Abishek, Aish, Ramgopal Varma and partial cast of his latest film addressed a jam-packed press conference.

I spent a night in Punjagutta PS lockup: Ramgopal Varma
Ramgopal Varma, looking younger than his previous visit, addressed the media in his casual style, beginning with a memoir of his a couple of decades ago. “I am emotional to be part of this occasion. It’s not only the success of Sarkar Raj. But also the nostalgia that this venue happens to be where I was born at brought up – Punjagutta Circle. I had to spend a night in the lockup of the police station here. I was running a video library and it was raided for pirated stuff of Amitabh Bachchan’s blockbuster Aakhree Raasta (1986). From that instance in real life, I take pride at present hour, having made a successful film with Amitab as hero. Power is the ability to achieve what you desire. Those were the days when I stood in queue lines to watch Bachchan’s films. Now, I enjoy the success of directing blockbusters with Amitab in real life. The budget of Sarkar Raj is Rs. 30 crore, and it had already collected Rs. 50 Crore and maintains the stamina of its first week run, still.”

Sarkar Raj – a Groundbreaking genre
“I do not consider this as a mere commercial success. It is genre-breaking – with no songs and dance. I concentrated much on the realistic factors of grimness and intensity in presentation of Sarkar Raj. Bachchans’ performance matters a lot. The locations are their close-up shots. It is a milestone of its kind in the Indian cinema. for Tho when my video library shop was raided. It speaks of the diversity in filmmaking. This is power and strength as well.”

Varma established his credibility: Big B
The Big B looked composed as he spoke in his thoughtful style. “I am happy to be amidst the wonderful people of Hyderabad. The place is not new to me. Earlier, I was part of the city during the shoot of my films many a time. I am thrilled to know that Ramgopal Varma spent a night in a lockup for pirating my film. (In a lighter vein with patchy laughter) I apologize to him for that, and I hope he will never go back again. Ramgopal Varma is the son of the soil. From a humble beginning, he went on to make history and now celebrates the success Sarkar Raj. He won the credibility from the audiences. He has the power to conceive and construct ideas. He challenges us with his creativity.”

Amitabh’s clever correction of RGV remark
Referring to RGV’s calculation about Sarkar Raj as groundbreaking genre away from the regular style of Indian films with songs and dance, Amitabh Bachchan seemed to correct the director’s side. “It is important for the films and the media. In fact, songs and dance is the USP of Indian cinema. There was a time when the west criticized our films for being escapist in nature. Now, they slowly began to accept our path. The attitude of the people in US towards our films is changing fast. Such content is necessary, because India holds rich diversity in languages, traditions and tastes. Ramgopal Varma did prove his unique style and made a totally different cinema and proved his mettle giving importance to realism. I thank him wholeheartedly.”

Later, replying to a ring of queries from the media, the Bachchans and RGV collectively responded.

Audience decide Actor’s survival: Abishekh
Abishekh Bachchan replied, rather humorously all the time. “I don’t believe in celebrating Father’s Day. To that matter, I don’t believe in Mother’s day and such routine dates. I rather celebrate parents’ day everyday. I thank God for my parents. I look forward for more challenges in my career, with lots of creativity. I want roles that can provoke me to take up new challenges efficiently.” He ruled: “The survival of the artistes and their choices is purely dependent on the audience decision.”

Aish about Bachchans & Profession
Aishwarya Roy Bachchan showed a kind of over enthusiasm responding to the media. To gist it out: “I can’t bring any comparison between Amitabh and Abishekh, personally and professionally too. I used to work with them in films even before my marriage. I can just draw a simple line, for your satisfaction. It’s pleasure working with Amitabh. Abishekh is a super blast. The former is thoroughly involved in the subject and shoot from the start to finish on the sets. But, Abishekh will get attentive and concentrated while facing the camera, which otherwise a normal person.” At one stage, when RGV said Amitabh Bachchan came up in life by hard work and Abishekh was born to a superstar, Aish retorted immediately, saying: “He (Abishek) is also hard working. Her opinion about Art and Commercial films is that: What an audience considers as an art film need not be commercial to the other and vice versa. “I don’t want to be catergorised into any particular mode of films and characterizations. I wish to be versatile.” She further maintained that she wished to do films in all Indian languages, and expected one in Telugu in particular. Regarding presentation of women on the Indian screen, she made a curt reply: “I can’t make any profound statements on the issue of presenting women on the screen.”

"It'll be nice to see Hrithik play the role of Chikoo" - Abhishek Bachchan Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Devansh Patel, June 14, 2008 - 13:42 IST

It was one of those rare sunny afternoons in London. The wind whipped my hair with the ferocity. Speaking of jet lags, my head ached with the dull throb of the morning. All this and it was a day when Abhishek Bachchan had to call me up on Ram Gopal Varma's request for a special interview post Sarkar Raj. I wait impatiently for a call from Mumbai. It was 1500 hrs to be precise and my mobile rings. "Hi, can I speak to Mr. Patel please?" I answer, "Yes, speaking." The young husky voice replied, "Hi, How are you? This is Abhishek Bachchan; Ramu just gave me your number and asked me to speak with you. But can I call you in half an hour as I'm just going in for a shot?" Without further ado and running out of words, I answered, "Alright that's fine." The devil on my right shoulder began whispering - If Abhishek doesn't call you in half an hour, he will not call today, just go home and do not wait for his call - and he went on and on like that. The angel on my other shoulder didn't say much, but what he did say, spoke volumes. Abhishek...Abhishek...Abhishek. I smelled the coffee for one last time, packed my bag and stared at my watch in amusement. It was 1730 hrs, time to leave the office. So as I pushed open the door, the devil once again reminded me - Didn't I say, he won't call. Within couple of minutes, I boarded the train back home and then the unthinkable happens. My phone beeps, the text message reads - Can I call up now? - It was Abhishek Bachchan. And just as the screechy doors of the metropolitan line train were about to shut, I rushed out in time and replied back to A.B.Junior saying - Yes. In less than thirty seconds the display screen on my phone reads - Abhishek Bachchan calling. The moment I have been waiting for since a month arrives. I looked, paused, looked again, and answered my phone. Then the fun began and some serious conversation took place, all on the noisy railway platform in Uxbridge.

The film is really doing well in the U.K. Is it right in saying that the Bachchan's have unanimously taken the power in the overseas with Sarkar Raj?
Well, I don't know if that could be a statement but yes, the film is doing well and we're very excited about that. I think from the genre of film that it is, it's almost path breaking that the film should be recording the kind of collections that it has, which is very encouraging and means that the audiences in the U.K. are willing to watch this kind of cinema as well.

It all started from Refugee, then after a long wait came Yuva, Guru, Sarkar and now Sarkar Raj. All the films I have mentioned have got you critical acclaim. But does that mean, the more grim, intense and ferocious side of you is shown, the better you have performed and excelled?
That's actually for you'll to decide but I'd also like to believe that movies like Bunty Aur Babli and Bluffmaster also went on to become successful which were lighter in nature than the films you just mentioned. I think at the end of the day it's the film and its characters which appeal to you and not any one particular genre.

I think at the end of the day it's the film and its characters which appeal to you and not any one particular genre.
Both Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag and Sarkar Raj have proved that how unpredictable Ramu can get as a director. Is that a good sign for an actor like you who has worked with him before and who might work with him again?
Of course, yes. You know my greatest attraction to him as a director is that he is unpredictable and that he is forever trying to do something different and he throws a lot of challenges at his actors and as an actor you really enjoy being challenged. He is always accused of attempting the same kind of cinema, which I disagree with. I think it's very exciting because at the end of the day the fate of the film at the box office is not in our hands. The only thing we can do is make films, which we believe in.

What would you like to say or convey to some of the critics who've blatantly abused Sarkar Raj the film on a much personal level than a professional one? Isn't this taking it too far?
I believe that everybody has the right to say whatever they want - right or wrong - I've always held critics in very high esteem because as far as an actor is concerned, they give you a ready reference as to what the audience might be feeling. If they don't agree with you or they don't agree with the film, I don't see that's any reason to get personal. But I respect what they say and if I think that the points they've made are valid, I'll definitely incorporate that the next time around. It doesn't really affect me to be very honest that at the end of the day, one critic can make or break a film.

I've always held critics in very high esteem because as far as an actor is concerned, they give you a ready reference as to what the audience might be feeling.
Your death in the film has come as a surprise to many. Was death inevitable?
I don't think so. I just think that initially, when we worked on the script of Sarkar Raj, Shankar Nagre was going to reign throughout the film. But about a month or two into the scripting, Ramu came up with this brilliant idea that Shankar Nagre's character would achieve a different level of respectability in the audiences' eyes, if he dies for the cause he believed in. Not to say that we made him into a martyr but we all felt that it would give him a certain amount of lift in terms of his character if we took this route. And at the end of the day, all that is left is Subhash Nagre and Chikoo.

As I've written in my review that Ramu has left so much space by the end of the film that he might be able to start work on the 'Sarkar Trilogy'. On a personal level, what do you think?
Yeah. I think it'll be interesting. Ramu is a very exciting director and he will do justice to the third part too. As you said that Ramu has left it open-ended and any time he wants to reprise the film, the most exciting part would be to see dad play Subhash Nagre again with the same sheer intensity as he did in both the earlier outings. I really think he was outstanding in Sarkar and in Sarkar Raj he was just awesome. He has managed to outdo the performance he has done in Sarkar and I genuinely feel that this was one of his best performances ever. I'd be more than happy for a fan of this series and of the franchise to see it carry on with 'Sarkar Trilogy'.

The Bachchans are getting busier day by day. The IIFA's, then Sarkar Raj, then the Sarkar Raj road rally followed up by your Unforgettable Tour. Busy people are happy people, as they say. What say?
(Laughs) Well, the Sarkar Raj rally is happening within India. We've already been to Gurgaon and Delhi. We will be going in a couple of days to other cities within India to promote the film and mostly interact with the audiences and the fans. We had a wonderful experience in Gurgaon with the local media and our fans. It was an overwhelming experience to see that kind of love and outpouring that came from the people. It's a unique idea and we're looking forward to it. And then, mid July, we embark on the 'Unforgettable World Tour' which actually ends up at the end of August in London. That'll be a lot of fun. And we are happy. That answers your second part of the question.

Today completes one week of the films release in the U.K and Sarkar Raj has already grossed more than quarter of a million pounds here. It also marks Ramu's highest ever collections in the U.K too. Any comments?
I am happy for Ramu and the entire team of Sarkar Raj. But it's not only U.K., the collections in certain parts of India are huge too. America's collection is equally good like in the U.K, if not, may be slightly more because it is a larger market. But at the end of the day what counts is that the thriller genre is getting accepted in the U.K, which traditionally, never used to work. U.K audiences tend to favor the more Yash Raj brand of cinema, which is a family entertainer with a lot of song and dance and culture. Very honestly, we the team of Sarkar Raj never expected the film to do much in the overseas market because of these statistics. The figures you've given me comes as a pleasant surprise that it's doing exceeding business in the U.K.

Sarkar and Sarkar Raj once again proved that the Hindi films aren't just about song and dance routine. Do you think more and more films should be made keeping in mind the success of such films?
Most definitely. When Sarkar was first made, it was a songless film. So was Black, for that matter, and they both went on to be very successful films. It just proved that the audience is willing to see films without songs and now Sarkar Raj has proved it again. And that's three in a row for dad too. We can sing to it (laughs).

Sarkar was first made, it was a songless film. So was Black, for that matter, and they both went on to be very successful films. It just proved that the audience is willing to see films without songs and now Sarkar Raj has proved it again.
Sarkar Raj is filled with sepia tones, black and grey shades and haunting background score. The film has continued from where it ended. Don't you think Ramu should've experimented a bit this time around?
I definitely feel that Sarkar Raj picks up and continues its style that Ramu had implied during Sarkar and this was something that needed to be constant in the film which is the way in which you tell the story and the technique used to convey the story. I hope when the trilogy is made, it still doesn't shift its focus.

Working together with the family for the first time would've been a great experience for you. But does it also bring in enough power in your performance when you see your dad and wife opposite you in the same frame?
Yes. Once the camera rolls, you're a professional and that is exactly how you should be. As actors, we can't allow our inter-personal relations to come in the way of our acting. But the minute Ramu said - Cut it - we were family again and it was great fun. Both dad and Aishwarya are actors with whom I've worked in the past and have enjoyed working with, and before Aishwarya and me were together, as a couple, we've done many films. Infact, she is one co-artist I've done maximum films with. So when you are facing Indian Film Industry's finest, you need to have the power to face them.

What did you learn from Sarkar Raj, which you did not from Sarkar?
There is so much to take away from a film that it becomes that much more an important and a memorable experience. I took away a lot from the film. First and foremost is that RGV Ki Aag released during the making of Sarkar Raj and I really saw Ramu go through this entire journey of emotions after his film failed, which we all know, and I really learnt the strengths of character that Ram Gopal Varma as a director has. You need to know that this was the same man who was lambasted for making such a film. But I really felt that the media and many others really went after him unfairly. I applaud Ramu for the way he handled that situation and the strength and the conviction with which he continued to believe in Sarkar Raj and didn't panic and still made the film, which he set out to make. It speaks volumes for Ramu as a director and as a person.

From your natural acting in Sarkar we will now see you possess some super-natural powers in Drona.
This is a tag that the media has put on because they have nothing else to write over here besides calling it a film with super natural powers. But it's not a super hero film, contrary to popular belief; it is a modern day fantasy in which I play a King. There is a lot of magic in the film but that doesn't make it super natural. I wouldn't compare it to Krishh too. I am really excited about Drona because I've never attempted something like this before. Infact, something like Drona has never been made in the history of Indian cinema. Therefore, we all are working very hard on it and looking forward for it.

It's not a super hero film, contrary to popular belief; it is a modern day fantasy in which I play a King. There is a lot of magic in the film but that doesn't make it super natural.
Any message you'd like to convey to people who haven't yet watched Sarkar Raj?
Obviously the first message will be - Please go watch it (laughs). Sarkar Raj is a brilliant film in all aspects and credit goes to Ram Gopal Varma. Secondly, fantastic performances from Dad and Aishwarya and if you're my fan... do I have to say anything further? (Laughs)

Whom would you pick to play Chikoo in the Sarkar Raj trilogy?
It'll be nice to see Hrithik Roshan play the role of Chikoo and more interesting will be the Ram Gopal Varma combination with Hrithik. That'll be an exciting watch.

Bachchan collectiveness conquers the States

Bachchan collectiveness conquers the States

The collective power of the Bachchan family missed out on an elusive Top 10 place by just a whisker, in the United States.

Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek and his wife Aishwarya Rai nearly managed to achieve the impossible… a fete that a Bollywood film hardly ever manages… a US Box Office Top 10 slot. The Ram Gopal Verma directed political thriller entered the charts at number 11, 1 place behind Made of Honor.

Over its first weekend of release, it has accumulated $642,523, showing on 70 screens with a per screen average of $9,178… This was also the fourth highest average.

The day of reckoning finally arrived and the three Bachchan starrer, SARKAR RAJ, hit the screens as per schedule, on June 6 2008. While Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have recently proved their star power with BHOOTHNATH and JODHAA AKBAR respectively, its director Ram Gopal Varma and Abhishek Bachchan for whom SARKAR RAJ is of great importance.

Director Ram Gopal Varma must himself have forgotten when he last directed a hit film, although Aby's Baby, Abhishek Bachchan gave his first solo superhit, just last year in the form of Mani Ratnam's GURU. On that occasion too, Abhishek had Aishwarya for company like in SARKAR RAJ and must be wishing for a repeat performance. Unfortunately, post GURU all his movies have failed to impress. It is due to these mentioned reasons that SARKAR RAJ becomes very important for both Ramu and Abhishek.

So how has it gone? The early indications are that after an average start SARKAR RAJ picked up at the multiplexes. As far as the critics are concerned, some have loved it, others have not, but it's the audience who is the final judge and on that count, both Abhishek and Ramu must be hoping to score a few points.

Here's wishing they do so with SARKAR RAJ and shut up their detractors!

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film starring Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai, had its world premiere Friday evening at the Ninth International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards, of which the Big B is the brand ambassador.

While Jaya Bachchan extended a warm welcome to Randhir, Kareena is set to perform at the IIFA awards night.

Other Indian stars at the premiere included Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, David Dhawan, Zayed Khan, veteran actress Mumtaz and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Abhishek: Home is where the heart is!
IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 07, 2008]

Well, he is all alone and far away from his home land. We are talking about Abhi baby who is flying from one country to the other, we mean literally, for his shoots these days, and the saddest thing for this home bird is that he is not finding time to get back even for a short breaker to India.

But then his doting family has come to his rescue. If reports circling B town are true then soon the Bachchan parivar will pack its bags and fly straight to meet their son who is right now shooting in Miami for K Jo's 'Dostana'.

Bachchan Jr. is really busy these days shooting for 'Drona' and 'Dilli 6' which will see him pairing with the latest entry Kapoor girl, Sonam Kapoor. In 'Dostana' that is being produced by Karan Johar and directed by Tarun Mansukhani Abhishek Bachchan will be seen sharing screen space with John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra. Karan Johar while speaking on this film to a media had vowed that this was a story way different from others.

So lets just wait and see if what K Jo has said comes true.

Laughter is the best medicine

A visibly fitter Abhishek Bachchan bonds with the doctors and the staff of a Miami hospital where he is filming for Dostana

Abhishek Bachchan with the staff of the Miami hospital

Abhishek Bachchan seems to have lost oodles of weight before hitting the beaches of Miami. Bachchan junior, who is presently filming for Karan Johar's next production Dostana, is looking and feeling better than ever before.

Sources close to the actor reveal that he is gearing up for his first wedding anniversary on April 20, when wife Aishwarya Rai will join him in Miami. However, his unit members insist that it is director Tarun Mansukhani who is the reason behind Abhishek's fitter physique. Tarun we hear has been coaxing him to lose weight.

Whatever be the case, the actor is definitely having a ball at Miami. He recently shot at Broward General Medical Centre for a sequence that had him playing a cheerful patient who is more concerned about another gorgeous female patient in the same ward than himself. Abhishek willingly obliged the medical practitioners and hospital staff with pictures and autographs in between shots.

A unit member says, "Abhishek is simply delightful. He keeps cracking jokes with our crew members. He is maintaining his diet as he wants to lose some more kilos."

Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham are also shooting with AB Jr, and the three seem to be getting along rather well.

where¢s the party tonight? Abhishek Bachchan with the hospital staff
Abhishek Bachchan is in Miami along with John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra shooting for Tarun Mansukhani¢s Dostana. Abhishek recently shot for a few scenes at the North Brown Medical Center in South Florida.

A source reveals that Abhsihek plays a male nurse who works at a local hospital. The scenes in the hospital involved Abhishek taking care of a  character actor.

Forthcoming

Apparently, local Indians working at the hospital thronged the film set when they heard about Bachchan Junior shooting. Not only did Abhishek take pictures with the local staff but also answered questions pertaining to his marriage with Ash and his forthcoming films.

We¢ve been told that the unit will soon move to a Hollywood beach to shoot a festive song sequence. After looking at the pictures, it¢s apparent that Abhishek has lost weight. Looks like Ash¢s strict diet is finally showing results.

LG slams back newspaper reporter over the Bachchans
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 - Industry News Network

It appears even reputed news publications like Economic Times are prone to disrepute at times. In recent weeks, a series of articles appearing on Economic Times under bylines of reporters Sonali Krishna and Omkar Sapre, had falsely reported on the lack of interest from endorsement companies for Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan respectively.

In fact, in an article dated Feb 28, 2008; Omkar Sapre in Economic Times reported that LG wasn't keen on signing Abhishek Bachchan and was planning to 'drop' him due to box office .

However the truth it appears is something else. Not only were the Korean company representatives keen on signing Abhishek Bachchan, they sought to contract Bachchan to endorse LG's entire line of products highlighting their cellphone brand. However since that conflicted with the Motorola endorsement Abhishek Bachchan already was committed to, he decided to opt out of the conflict of interest.

It appears the Economic Times reporter didn't bother to contact the relevant authorities at LG and mischaracterized the terms of parting for Abhishek Bachchan from LG, and published the article stating LG was 'dropping' Jr. Bachchan.

This prompted a troubled Managing Director of LG himself to write a letter of apology directly to Abhishek Bachchan, rebuking the ET article reporter for false journalism in a national newspaper. The letter has been obtained by our sources and reproduced below.

However such gap between the reporting and facts seem to affirm what sources in the industry claim; that newspapers like Mumbai Mirror, Mid-Day and a few online newsportals have certain writers who may be deliberately planting such negative and false stories on the Bachchans in recent months.
