"You must be the change you wish to see in the world"- Mahatma Gandhi
We often forget what we as individuals can to do to make this world a better place to live in and spend time only spreading negatives about humanity, forgetting the basic human nature of wanting to live in peace. So much so, that we often spend time waiting for the change to happen, consistently undermining our own potential to be the change.

The monsoons in Shimla have been quite prolonged. Its been raining for
almost 3 months now, the only relief is that it is not the usual non stop,
incessant pouring.
I am sure by now many members are aware of our activities with Voice of
Himachal (VOH). Some members in the VOH network, intend to
register another entity for young IT professionals in the state. This
entity will pitch for IT related projects in the state and other
projects which come through outsourcing. They are interested in setting
it up as a cooperative.
We are looking for some inputs on design aspects of such a cooperative
whose primary beneficiaries & members will be young, unemployed IT professionals in
the state.
Moreover do you think the Cooperative law in India & the state is conducive for
such an activity. I am trying to arrange a copy of the cooperative
societies act in the state.
It will help if some senior members advise us
on how to go about doing this. It will also help if you can provide references of people you know have been associated with the cooperative movement.

A poor woman's suicide seldom makes news, unless, of course, it is
carried out in a police officer's office. An Anganwadi worker in
Baijnath could not think of such a desperate measure because she had
nobody in particular to blame, but just the system, and therefore
there was no one to cry foul when she knotted a rope to hang herself
with. She had been wronged. Someone had taken away her job – a job
paying just a couple of hundred rupees, but anyway her soul source of
livelihood.

Lok Vigyan Kendra has put up an appeal for supporting herbal plantations in Charda, a remote village in Dist. Chamba of Himachal Pradesh.
Kindly visit http://www.himvani.com to see the power point presentation which gives details about the work being done by our NGO partner. This will not take more then 5 minutes. A small contribution from you like last year will certainly help make this program a success.
Congratulations Varun and Team. Now things are taking shape and It is a right time to initiate and design all the Projects undertaken by VOH, you can create a document to summaries them.

I am happy to inform that Voice of Himachal (VOH) is now registered as a national level society under the Registration of Societies Act 1860 in Delhi.
With this VOH which started as a group of individuals who met over a period of time through the internet since 2001 have come together to share their common goals and objectives to work as catalysts in development of the state. The journey of VOH has seen many and downs but this is certainly a high for us and I would like to congratulate you all for being part of this journey so far.
We will shortly be announcing details of the first board of VOH and the process of formally registering as members of the organisation.

Himachal Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Board has advertised various posts:
In a recently concluded workshop on "Disability rights: Role of Young Generation" organised by Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (SDRS), Surekha Dhaleta, representative of VOH took up the issue of a framing a policy on disability issues. The minister of Social Welfare and Empowerement took a kind consideration to these suggestions and announced that policy document will be released within 60 days.
Vipasha !!!
It will be the first initiative of its kind in Himachal Pradesh.
Around thirty selected deaf and ten low vision children would express
their feelings on canvas with colour and brush on 8th June in 'Talent-
2008' at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Shimla. Himachal Pradesh
Chapter of Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (SDRS)
and Yuva – Himachal as a part of their mass awareness and
sensitization campaign about disability, are organizing this unique
painting contest.
The purpose of this event is to highlight the hidden talent of the
disabled children and encourage them to become a good artist. The jury
would select 20 children for further training in fine arts on the
basis of their performance in this contest.

Hi,
Just could not stop myself from sharing this article. So next time if
you are in Shimla, do visit the mall road for reasons mentioned below.
with warm regards
Varun
There's something amazingly special about Saturdays on the Shimla Mall
Road. The century old Mall Road buzzes extraordinarily on Saturdays
with the ensemble of city's entire young crowd. It wasn't always the
same; Saturdays were no different from any other day, but gradually in
the past few years every Saturday on the Mall has become like a
festive day of every week and can never go unnoticed. Saturday on the
Mall means youth, fashion, trends, dating and style. The hangout
culture amongst boys and girls has made it young and happening. The
Mall - the only and the most happening hang-out place of Shimla!
Seasons go on and off; Saturday on the Mall keeps buzzing and
happening like some college festival, throughout the year.
