Dear Group Members,
During discussion on Cassia uniflora syn. Cassia sericea in Indiantreepix,
Shri Vijaysankar of FRLHT, Bangalore informed "Surely it is Cassia (now Senna)
uniflora!
It was introduced as a biological measure to control the spread of an obnoxious
weed Parthenium hysterophorus. Unfortunately, this (C. uniflora) has become an
another weed in the indian flora and spreading very rapidly. This is the
dominant weed in and around bangalore now.
regards
vijayasankar"
If it is true than there is need to think on this aspect seriously again. Use of
Cassia sericea for Parthenium management is one of the strong recommendations
given by Indian Agriculture Authorities.
