My few thoughts on this -
It was interesting to note different views and perspective of
Innovative or creative organization. In my opinion it is easy to
bring creativity and innovation in a small Organization ( & Medium
to some extent), I guess the bigger challenge is to make most big
and Medium organization lively place to work and also to bring
in "real" enthusiasm and to unleash the energy in large and
complex environment ( Most of the time we make it complex !). It is common
to blame on Process driven culture to kill Innovation and Creativity
but I always feel that Processes act as check and Balance but it is
the People who make the difference, In fact to be precise it is the
Leadership that drives Innovation and Creativity and to do that you
need Courageous and Passionate leaders ,Yes Courage and Passion !
You need courage to move away from normal route and search for
alternate and better one. If your passionate – It keeps you going
against all odds. This has to be embedded among all the Managers who
are in leadership position. ( In my opinion I feel these are
Inherent qualities – am sure lot of people disagree on this )
A Courageous leader makes a tremendous impact on the system, It
requires Courage and Passion (Old stuff like Hardworking, Focused
and Feel –Good Manager! etc etc are all common denominators
now..It is no more a key differentiator!)
Courage and Passion – Both are infectious & spreads like wildfire
in the team and make the unit formidable one . In large Organizations
you need to find such people at every level and empower them –
You will see wonders!
At the same time -set of people who feel Innovation and Creativity
is risky road , will become obsolete – You can hear them
cribbing about everything that happens around them, but it hardly makes impact
IBM, GE are live examples of large organizations who have re-
discovered under the Courageous and Passionate leaders (C& P)…..!
Increase C & P quotient at every leadership level – It will be
great place to work, Customers will get more Value added Service etc.
– Vibrant Organization ( need not be a movie unit !)
