Dear Maggie, I changed computers at the time you asked this and have only
just seen your e-mail under 'storage'! The famous exchange between Holmes
and Watson concerning the Earth and the Sun and the brain being like an
empty attic appeared in A Study In Scarlet - in chapter 2 'The Science of
Deduction'.
With best wishes!
Tim

Subject: Thanks
Remember Watson's amazement when,
early on in his relationship with Holmes, he discovered that not only was
Holmes apparently unaware the Earth went around the Sun but expressed the
intention to put this fact out of his mind on the grounds there is only so
much storage space in the brain and he, presumably, felt that particular
fact might not be essential to his work.
Tim, what story is this in?
Maggie
