Dear Sherlockians,

That was a very interesting post indeed by James and two very, very interesting
and thought-provoking links! Holmes, an autistic? This definitely needs looking
into and discussed.

Autistic...I agree, to a certain extent. But ADD? I don't think so. People
afflicted by attention deficit disorder (ADD) generally tend to have no control
over their "attention span." Such span may vary from a few minutes to just a few
seconds, whatever be the subject. Was Holmes like that? I would say not.

What do you guys think?

Dear Fellow Group Members,

Recently there were some interesting posts. I would like to add my
observations on a key issue that I don't see addressed very often.

As to who the Great Detective is modeled after. Dr. Bell seems to
always be the choice "de facto".

Why do we presume to take the historical reference from ACD as
gospel, certainly there is much more to the legacy bestowed upon
this Consulting Detective than we will see. And history is always
subject to revision, depending on who is at the controls.

There have been two excellent monographs on the personality of
Holmes and the traits he exhibits........in reference to personality
profiles. I include two links that disect his quirks into a more
plausible "probability" of why he is who he is.

So now, by illustrating several of Holmes idiosyncratic
peculiarities, we can see the weight of learned persons objective
assesments in the grand possibolity of Holmes being afflicted
with ADD or Autism.

If it were at all possible to profile the various persons of whom we
believe to be a model for Holmes, attaching the diagnosis of these
people mentioned in the links, we could presume that if any of the
historical persons exhibit more than a modicum of the ADD or other
malady, it would be more conclusive to assert that Holmes was indeed
modeled after these people or person.

I have attempted in my ongoing work to incorporate this profile to a
more "recogniseable" elevation........to articulate the authenticity
of our true Consulting Genious.

Most of all, I wish to convey my warm regards to the members of this
group, who I see as approaching the time tested reverence for the
Great Detective.............through a new vision......and hopefully
a refreshing new slant on our Great Detective.

In closing I would say in addition to the above, that the tenacity
and relentless pursuit of the truth.....on the Holmes issue.....
by you "Tigers of India"......has me quite in a state of enthusiasim
and delight for the new appreciation of the many diverse elements
present in the Canon.

I remain,

your servant
