Has anyone seen any evidence to support this popular anecdote? I've
read in many places that Doyle received abusive letters and people
wore mourning after "The Final problem" was published in the Strand
in December 1893; has anyone seen any primary evidence to supoport
this, or are the biographers all quoting one another?
