Dear Holmesians (and Faisal),
I must say that was indeed a gross error on my part. It was not the snap of
the couple together but of Irene Adler which finally ended up with Holmes.
But what I said still stands. Irene was very clear in her missive to Holmes to
whom she gave her word that the photograph would not be used in any way
detrimental to the King and that she was going away with her beloved. That would
definitely rule out the possibility of a liaison between Holmes and Adler, don't
u think?

Hi everybody!!
I am Faisal.I joined this interesting group
only last month.I have since been very much in awe at
the level of discussion you guys have about the master
Sherlock Holmes and his adventures.I have always
looked forward to a chance to take part in the
discussions and today I seem to have got a chance to
do so.
On reading Mr. Sridhar's message regarding
the reason why Adler would not have married Holmes,I
could not ignore the fact that Mr. Sridhar had pointed
out in his message. He says that Irene Adler had given
up the photograph willingly with which she could have
blackmailed the King of Bohemia.Well if I am not
wrong,Irene Adler retained that photograph with her
and had only given a picture of hers to the king and
not the one in which both were present.
I hope other members recognise this slight
folly on Mr.Sridhar's part.My intention was only to
bring to your notice the minor detail that you seemed
to have misinterpreted,Mr.Sridhar.Please dont consider
it as nit-picking on my part!!.After all, this what
this group is all about, sharpening our knowledge about
the canon,apart from revering the
master,Mr.Holmes.Isnt it?
Yours
sincerely,

Dear Sherlockians,
Can anyone give me one solid reason to support the
evidence that Irene Adler would willingly agree to
marry or even have an affair with Holmes? Why would
she do that when she already is married to a person
whom she finds to be a better man than the King of
Bohemia himself?!
Let's look at this from her POV. She willingly gave
away the photograph (the only useful object she might
have possessed with which she could have blackmailed
the King) once she married her lover. She showed
Holmes that she was as brainy (or shall I say as much
of a deductive reasoner) as him. She had left England
to be with her husband. They why would she get in
touch with Holmes at all? I would have thought she'd
be happy starting her own family, kids...et al!
Comments are most welcome.

Dear Sherlockians,
Sorry that there
had once again been a hiatus in my participation.
Actually I have had been away for four days at
Siliguri (298 km from my residential town of
Balurghat), and on returning, I was greeted with at
least 14 unread mails of the Society. I wish every
member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of India
(S.H.S.I) a very happy and prosperous 2006!
Regarding the
on-going discussions about “A Scandal in Bohemia”, I
would like to add that Sherlock Holmes has definitely
been shown having had fallen in love with Irene Adler
in the story. There might be a debate on whether it is
love or fascination, but there IS something between
them in this story! There is definitely the other
theory to ponder upon – it takes into consideration
such points as Holmes’s uncanny seclusion,
self-distancing from women, overt dependence on John
Hamish Watson and addiction to cocaine, but …well…it
would be rather controversial (though according to me
literary critics should deal with ALL the aspects of
canonical writings)! Irene Adler, I hope the S.H.S.I
members would agree with me, is the most physical of
all the Sherlock Holmes women – she might have well
played the part of the sultry seductress. A startling
theory forwarded by Rex Stout is that Holmes actually
married Adler during his post-Reichenbach hiding and
that Nero Wolfe is their son! I should also mention
that in the body of recent historicist criticism, Jean
Leckie, the second wife of Arthur Conan Doyle, is
progressively been seen as a cruel seductress rather
than a revered one who could participate in automatic
writing and provide august company to the Holmes
creator.
Further discussions are solicited.
