Dear Jeff,
I beg to differ. Please note SH was a typical Victorian gentleman. The
contempt he showed to his high society clients were on an individual
basis rather than towards their class.
He lived in relative comfort , had a lot of subordinates who took care
of him( Mrs Hudson, Shin well Johnson ) etc.
He was surprisingly sympathetic to his client in the Noble Bachelor
when he had lost his wife to be to a suitor.
He is proud of the fact that he is a descendant of Squire. So to say
that he is a social radical in my opinion does not strike me as correct.
