Hello friends,
in "The Illustrious Client" Baron Gruner is attacked by acid. Watson's
treatment is to inject a dose of morphia for pain relief, and to bathe
the injury in salad oil, then apply cotton wadding for bandages.
Nowadays we know that oil applied to burns can lead to infection. Was
this known in the Victorian days, or did Watson follow contemporary
medical wisdom?
