Re: [sherlock holmes society of india] exercise

Dear SHians,

Mention has been made on occasion about the 2 sports Holmes excelled in - jiu
jitsu (oft-debated, I know) and expertise in single-stick fighting. I believe
practitioners of all martial arts perform exercises on a regular basis to keep
themselves in shape and I have no reason to believe Holmes was an exception,
despite no mention being made of it by his chronicler. Like Siva says, it is
possible Dr. Watson was a late sleeper and Holmes had finished his exercises
before he awoke.

Further, contrary to what the cartoons say, Mrs. Hudson was supposedly a good
housekeeper and cook. As to what she served, it decidedly must have been a
typical British meal. Let us also remember that those were the times when
pollution had not reared its ugly head as much as it has now.

possible that the good doctor never saw holmes exercise; on many
occasions it is said that holmes was up and about, even to the extent
of having had a long walk, when dr watson awoke.
