Re: [sherlock holmes society of india] Mission Statement

Dear Sherlockians,

Mr. Symonds's proposals are most welcome. That is what I feel
strongly too – the members of the “Sherlock Holmes Society of India” need to
have a more organised network. Why don’t we fix a date for submitting our
proposals, and if possible, by the method of internet voting, choose our
secretary/director and information officer? The Society has many memberships
right now, and the first thing, I feel, we should do is to take the
responsibility of maintaining a register containing the names, addresses and
other relevant details of the different “Sherlock Holmes Society of India”
members and the data be made available to all of us. It is also desirable that
the members of the Society should know each other by face and the posting of at
least one passport size photograph in the relevant box might be made mandatory.
There should not be any personal attacks while discussing a point and restraints
in language but not creative answers is always a welcome feature! If
possible, we can create a contingency fund with general consent and with that
money we can bring out newsletters or data distribution and verification sheets
periodically. And a newspaper/magazine/journal is always wonderful! Further, an
annual or biannual meeting could be organised at a certain place convenient to
all, and if that is not possible, we can have an on-line conference by chatting
within a pre-fixed duration. The members should be allowed and encouraged to
post articles and essays in the site.

These are some of my own points. It would be very kind of the other Sherlockians
to wage discussion on these issues as soon as possible.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Pinaki Roy,

Department of English,

Balurghat College
