Just a piece of luck that I got connected to the net today and saw your msg..! Man I am stuck here.. the road to Spiti is closed at Malling and the return is impossible as the bridge on Satluj has washed down and can't come back to Rampur.. am in Yangthang.. using the internet connection of the local DFO. Am staying at the rest house here. The great news is I have resigned from Ahmedabad. Will look out for a job once back.. So I am all free now to pursue my travels all the way. Have lost considerable weight here in the hills.
Here in Kinnaur I am pretty impressed by the irrigation system.. there are small 'kuls' which run around the steep hills providing water to every nick and corner of the region. With the forests all around, rainfall is plenty. I was at Narkanda and the place is all spruced up. It was nice to be there. One thing which I have noticed is the considerable increase in drug abuse. Children as young as 12 are smoking weed and sulfa. This has become a major problem. Even smuggling of desi whisky (daru) is a full scale profession. This daru is smuggled across plastic pouches!!
I travelled through a new route, from Narkanda to Sarahan. It goes through the hills of Sungri, Gora and to Sarahan. Found lot many cyclists cruising through this route. Some great forests. not to be missed.
Even as I write, there is news of cloud burst in the Kotkhai area, the area being affected was the Kotkhai bazaar and the bus-stand. Lot many cloud bursts have happened this season here...
