Diwali is an important Indian festival, and USPS is
thinking about issuing stamps for this occasion.
USPS
has stamps for other festivals too like Christmas,
Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Eid, and Chinese New Year. To do
this, USPS needs 500,000 signatures to have a
stamp release, and so far they have 125000+ people
who have signed the petition. Please go to the site
below and support the release of the Diwali stamp.
Also, please forward widely to others who would
support this (do not need to be a person of Indian
origin to sign the petition!)

Hi guys,
I am looking for someone or a group who will like to maintain and
run ishimla.com
Someone who is willing to run the community add/edit/approve
posting, maintain the forums, egallery, downloads, newsletter
etc...also for those creative people who have something in mind on
how to run I'll love to hear from you. If you are intersted in
running any sort of contest, or sponsorships for an event which
might benefit the site I am willing to invest.
I'll prefer someone from Shimla, those who are in touch with the
happenings and can update site and the users.
Also by site handover I mean just handing it over to someone who
wants to run it ,I will still own the site and pay for the expenses,
all I need is a volunteer who has the will and the attitude to run
the site. The person will get the full access and rights to perform
the work without any approvals.
For those who are interested can discuss the details with me on my
email address ankush_chowdhary@...,so if it sounds fun please
drop in a line.
Cheers

A few of yahoo groups have maintained stability and have active members with higher IDEALS for our society. Yet many groups with similar focus are unable to achieve something worthwhile.
There is a power in the numbers and I feel smaller pools be now
merged into a bigger pond with contributed strength of a common bigger Vision..The strengh would be formed in numbers and thinking that WE ARE ONE!!! ... ALL TOGETHER, UNITED, as if we were ONE! Working our way for a bigger merger we must Decree! that we shall stay together to re-establish the value system in our society and bring much needed
improvements for our people towards and society in general.
Let us invoke the blessings of the struggle of stalwarts who left us and ask for the power of our elders ..our most cherished ideals..our valuable and worthy heritage and ask for the Grace of the Divine in our work.. Let us concentrate our individual formulas and make a common preparation because we are essentially One.. ALL TOGETHER, UNITED, as if we were ONE! and shall stay connected One in our common VISION for our country, society and our people..
Most of us are already positive in our minds as to where we have to go. Our togetherness shall lead us to ever greater strengh, and this strength would make us victorious admist every odd situation. We have come this far wonderfully connected and shall stay so in future as well ever gaining our newer strength, every moment..to do good work collectively. The collective vibrations shall lift us and bring our goal nearer..This would sure be a major turning point when we shall start realizing within us that no one can exert bad control over us..and it is time for us to return to a better society that is natural right of our people..Acknolwledging our collective potential shall give us a new strengh and we shall together learn how to use this power.
Is not this true when we tell ourselves that we can do something particular, the will and the determination builds up and confidence so gained, carries us further with a renewed power. It is simply a faith in ourselves or in others..Here our attitude and our approach makes the difference. This is important for our work. There are forces in our society that are very dangerous and they control and confuse us and at times make us feel insignificant before their terrifying methods and ever increasing all devouring corrupt deeds. They are those who love to control and confuse us and try undermining our faith ourselves. When we remain divided and individuals..such mosters are able to gain control over us but when we are TOGETHER they shall loose their power to control us or to keep our society and fair justice under their thumb. Every one of us has
a tremendous potential to bring a change for our people. Our collective creative power, if consciously used as a collective UNIT in a controlled and directed manner shall enable us to manifest the change that we are desiring. There is always a power in the numbers and it is my humble request that a few of the different groups try merging with a COMMON VISION and utilize our TOGETHERINESS..collective POWER for the good of all.
Friends, who are also on other lists are requested to circulate this and one of us can take the lead of forming a bigger Council now onwards and complete this task in a few days..
I taught in Gorton Mission School, Kotgarh for two years form 1990-92. I enjoyed my stay and love the place. I used to go for walks after the school hours and trust me har morh par nazaara pehle se haseen hota tha. I never had enough of the beauty of that place. I walked to Bhareri Dhar to catch the bus for Shimla and the walk was for more than one hour and very steep uphill. Do people still catch the bus from Bhareri Dhar or the bus service has increased? I enjoyed the walks in the whole area of Kotgarh and Thanedhar upto Mailan and Veer Garh. Starting from Kotgarh I climbed Hattoo peak twice. But I never felt tired as the beauty of the area, the fragrance of pines, tall standing trees on very steep slopes, view of Saltuj way down in the valley keep you fresh. It was year 2000 when I last visited that place.
I still remember enjoying tea at Negi's hotel at Narkanda. Is the hotel still running?
I miss Kotgarh...I am sending you a picture which I clicked from the varandah of my friend's house in Mailan (Kofni). You can see Narkanda, Kumarsen and the whole area of that side. Let me know how do you like that pic. This picture was in three frames.
Just see whatever you can do to send the pics...It has been long since I used Webshots.com. Last time I uploaded my pics on that site when I was in India. I used to email them the pics from Outlook Express and that was faster. Afterwards when those are posted on the site, you can edit your pics. And then I used to send the links to my friends. I do not know whether you used Webshots.com or not.
Hi Rohit
Sorry to disappoint you again but the windows in SP are just like
Rajdhani!
The fare of 4850/- is applicable for 6 person and they serve
breakfast during the journey.
Its always a pleasure to assist people on board. The only problem is
am not regular these days due to hitches in dial up net connection
here in my part of world.
Boy I do my miss my Ahmedabad days and the DSL... that seems another
lifetime!
Cheers
Nitin
Hi Richard
Thanks for writing. Yup I have clicked pics of the area and will
love to share them but... the net here is pretty slow and uploading
pics is a prob. It takes 15 minutes to sign in to Yahoo!. I'll see
what I can do best..
Tell me more about your K'garh days.. I know the place and people...
What brought you there.... I mean here.. :))
Regards
Nitin
this is my personal experience that himachali are always ready to help and share info. with strangers who requested than people from other parts.
i am disappointed to know about fixed windows. but i do hope the windows will be clear and transparent, not like Rajdhani.
also one thing i am confused about fare of
Shivalik Palace Tourist Coach. it's Rs.4850/- in the up but not sure if this is for whole coupe for 6 persons or for each person ( Rs.4850 x 6 ) ?
once again i would like to say thanks to you for the info. and time spend to collect info. for me.

None of these trains have openable windows as far I can remember. The reason being its a very narrow track with hillside on one end.
You can reserve tickets online on Indian Railway website with a CC at www.irctc.co.in
Its a good website and I have been using it regularly with no problems. Only thing you have to give an address in India where the tickets are to be delivered as they don't send international couriers.
Alternatively you can ask any of your friends / relatives to make a payment and collect tickets for you.
Thanks for the info about Narkanda. I love that place. I was in Kotgarh, few kilometers from Narkanda, for two years in early 90's. I long to see that place. Have you cliked pictures of Narkanda and the surrounding area? If yes, then would you mind sharing those?
I would be grateful.

These days we have problem of avalanches and is a little dicy if coming to Shimla. Apple growers have a reson to smile this year..!!
Its bright sunny today... great to see sun after more than a month. I tried my hands on skiing this year and hmmm not bad... may be next year I'll cruise down from the hill tops.

I don't agree with u on what's the best point about Gmail.
The best thing about gmail is that u can search through the gmail
archives just like u can search webpages on google.
Rediff does not have a search option. Yahoo has it but but u can't
do it straighway, u have to specify whether u want to search
inside the email or u want to search inside the subject of the
emails.
On the other hand, searching for a 6 months old email on gmail is
as easy as a click. Plus the other best point of gmail is messages
threading, so u can have all related email replies in one
thread.
Just my point of veiew. I hope other who use gmail heavily agree
on this.

My first target is to watch and enjoy beauty of mountains and nature.
I am looking for train with big openable windows to see and enjoy outside beauty.
Did you have any idea if Shivalik Palace coach have openable windows ?
I don't want to use credit card over the phone or i.net. What is the other best way to make reservation while I am sitting abroad ?

If you want to travel in style then Shivalik Palace coach is the thing. Its a full coach attached to the Shivalik Deluxe Express train. You have a fully furnished coach at your disposal with an attendent. Other wise you can reserve seats in the Shivalik Deluxe Express train which is basically a Non a/c CHAIR CAR.

Normally reservations for Shivalik starts 60 days in advance from the date of journey.

am planning to stay in the hotel situated on the Ridge, next to the Chruch ( if am not mistaken, that hotel's name is Mayur ). is that hotel approachable by car or any other Transportation?
No, its not approachable by car! You will have to walk up. If you want a drive-in hotel try, Holiday Home or the Oberoi Cecil.
> Except that I also do have plan to stay one day/night in Solan. Is there anybody who know if there is any hotel to stay in Solan ?
I have heard about Himani at Solan, don't know how good it is but I can suggest Hotel Pinewood at Barog which is run by HPTDC. A great place.
