Appeal of Capt. Kalia's father to all Indian Citizens

Letter written by Dr. Kalia f/o Late Lt. Saurabh Kalia to: A.B.Vajpayee, Nawaz Sharif, K.R. Narayanan, V.P. Malik, George Fernandes

I am proud father of Amar Shaheed Lt. Saurabh Kalia of 4 JAT Regiment of the Indian Army who laid down his life at the prime age of 22 for the Nation while doing duty of guarding the frontiers at Kargil. The parents, the Indian Army but the whole nation lost a dedicated, honest and brave son. He was the first officer to detect and inform Pak intrusion. Pakistan captured him and his patrol party of 5 brave men alive on 15th May, 99 from our side of LOC. They were in their captivity for 3 weeks and subjected to unprecedented brutal torture as evident from their bodies handed over by Pakistan Army on 9th June, 99.They indulged in dastardly acts of burning bodies with cigarettes, piercing ears with hot rods, removing eyes before puncturing them, breaking most of the bones and teeth, chopping off various limbs and private organs of these soldiers besides inflicting unimaginable physical and mental tortures. They were shot dead ultimately. (A detailed postmortem report is with the Indian Army) This continued for about 22 days. Pakistan dared to humiliate India this way flouting all international norms. To what an extreme humanity can be degraded, Pakistan provided an example. However, the Indian soldiers did not break while undergoing all this unlimited barbarism. This speaks volumes of their patriotism, grit, determination, tenacity and valour and the whole nation should be proud of them. All over the country there is unprecedented anger and outrage at this tragedy. Sacrificing oneself for the nation is an honour every soldier would love to do but no parents, army or nation can accept what happened to these brave sons of India. I am afraid every parent would think twice to send their wards in the armed forces if we all fall short of our duty of safeguarding the PRISONERS OF WAR AND LET THEM MEET THE FATE OF LT. SAURABH KALIA. It may also send a demoralising signal to the Army personnel fighting for the Nation that our POWs in Pak cannot be taken care of. It is a matter of shame and disgust that most of Indian Human Rights Organisations by and large, showed apathy in this matter. Through this humble submission, may I appeal to all the civilised people irrespective of colour, caste, region, religion and political lineage to stir their conscience and rise to take this as a NATIONAL ISSUE? International Human Rights Organisations must be approached to expose and pressurise Pakistan to identify, book and punish all those who perpetrated this heinous crime to our men in uniform. If Pakistan is allowed to go unpunished in this case, everyone can imagine the consequences. This is the list of 5 other soldiers who preferred to die for the country rather than open their mouths in front of enemy.

This post i hastily prepared as i had very little time over the week
end so please innore all the mistakes in it.

Its been vey tough time for Mumbai , it was hit by heavy rains and
then many blasts, unfortunately I experienced both of them.
Rains caused total havoc in the city where as bomb caused panic.
I was in my office when at around 6.30 we herd the news about bomb
blast, one of my college was on phone with his friend who saw bomb
blast as it happened.
We searched on net endlessly but did not find anything on blast
until 7pm.
Sify had a link to CNBC webcast on its main page, but rediff was
first one to report the blast. Google news did not displayed blast
till next day.
I stayed in office till 10pm as trains were stoped, left my office
at Andheri only at 10, strange thing was that when I went to Andheri
station (which is one of the bussiest stations in Mumbai),
restaurants were open, and so I managed to get some food.
I took bus unto Bandra station. Throughout the way, people were
offering Glucose biscuit and water to people walking and busses, we
actually had to refuse rudely to people from giving us biscuits, guy
sitting next to me had 5 family packs with him by the time we got
down at Bandra.
I could not manage to get any thing at bandra station so I decided
to walk up to mahim where Hindustan Times has an office and my
cousin works there, which is almost 2Km from bandra. On my way many
taxi people stopped and offered me free ride, just they were not
headed in same direction as I was.
At Mahim, I took taxi and went home, amazingly taxi driver charged
me on meter and not `extra' what people tend to do in such situation.

Just like 90% of Mumbai I went back to office very next day. Usually
people do not talk in local trains in Mumbai, but on that day just
about everyone had story to tell and it was like you know one person
or another who just either missed the ill fated trains of was about
to board one.
One of my college friends missed one such train and was very scared,
he did not reported to his work till Monday.
Too much happened in last 10 days but nothing has changed for the
city, many have died but no channel was able to show blood neither I
saw any train parts on my way to office next day.

Dear members,

I am happy to announce our 5th offline meeting in Delhi. This meeting
will be help on 31st July (Sunday) at Himachal Bhawan. Time will be 3
PM . As most of members in Delhi are working so we have scheduled the
meet on Sunday. Hope to see lot of new faces who have joined the group
in past one year. This does not mean than old timers can excuse
themselves.

I do understand that getting out of home is bit difficult on a sunday
afternoon , specially for the members who have a 6 day work schedule ,
but i believe social development will not happen by sitting in our
drawing rooms or messaging on this board.

For the uninitiated the restaurant in Himachal Bhawan serves good
paneer pakodas with tea.

Kindly reply to me or write to Surender Dhaleta at dhaleta@...
with your phone number to confirm your participation.

with warm regards

more than 10 people died in an road accident in shimla.
most of them were on their daily commute to their offices and colleges.

its high time, insidents like these keep on happening very regularly.
Govt should see that speed rules are followed and drivers have propper
driving skills, now days it has become very easy to get license.
i think those driving commercial vechicals shouls me given special

hi abhishek

i think you should change either your view or way of expression. the word punjab really hurt me. i am agree with you that tourists are creating lots of problems in Himachal. but our state govt and we people are also failed to maintain the beauty of Himachal and playing major role to spoil the himachal's beauty . I still remember lots of people in my neighbourhood in my home city ( in Himachal ) had habit to dump garbage on rodsides instead of putting in garbage canns. also there is no recycle unit to get rid of garbage in proper manner so municipality dump the city's garbage in beautiful surrounding jungles. and it happen in almost every city and village  they are not outsiders so what you says about them ? you can't stop people to get settle  there like the same way nobody can stop you to settle in any other state like Punjab.

i am living in canada rigth now. born in punjab and belongs to punjabi family but moved in himachal when i was in 4th class. my father was supplier of water pumps, Diesel Engines and other mechanical goods to IPH & local farmers when i was not even born. hamirpur was just like a village that time and it was not even connected properly with roads. via Una was the best connecting road  to hamirpur but still buses had to passes through Khads to get to Hamirpur.

but my father was hard working enough to keep supply continue to deptt. and villagers even in bad weather and seasons. he had to walk many kms to fix water supply schemes in interior locations. i don't wannt to go in detail but the one thing would like to mention that IPH incouraged my father to open branch office in hamirpur so that they could be in touch with my father in case of emergengy for spareparts. there was no other supplier that time. later on we moved in himachal i got my education in hamachal till graduation. i was founder member of HP Adventure Sports Association and also i was memebr and started few other socities in Hamirpur.   i consider my self more himachal. i love it like a crazy. but even after spending more than 20 years of my life people used to call us punjabi and didn't accepted us. my father spend whole life in himachal but people liek you  nerver accepted us and considers us outsiders, no matter how important role my father played there. most of the old water supply schemes in distt. hamirpur are started by my father.

now i am living in canada for many years but nobody ever asked form me that which country i am from.  i want to go back and get settle in India and in himachal only not in punjab as i spent my life in himachal so feel close to himachal. even though most of my himachali friends are working and settled in punjab, chandigarh and delhi. don't you think punjab should be saved from outsiders like himachalis and bihari too ? i don't think so b'coz my mind is not dirty like others. moreover we live in a free country where anybody can move anywhere within country. but it hurts to me when i meet sick people like you. instead of blaming to outsides we himachalis should improve ourself 1st. if we could open recycle unit and follow home/building constructions bylaws we can save himachal. so stop blaming outsiders and get your brain fix 1st. after a long time i heard this outsiders word but even then i consider myself himachali and sick minded people like you can't change my identity. i don't like to yell at people and quite by nature but when meet people like you i can't stop myself. looks that you are not in himachal rigth now, may be you lives in abroad. how you feel if even after spending most of live in a diff. state of country you are considered as outsider of may be f.........indian  ( i know how the descrimination level in UK is ) ?

i don't think dirty mind people like you shoould be given any plateform to express their sick opnion. so request everybody to bycott you and should be removed from the group otherwise i may have to think myself to cancell my subscription.

take care

just to be clear one thing as mr. bagga asked!   outsiders, means people from others states like punjab etc.  day by day showing their willingness to settle here.
so, in future it can be a great curse for himachali culture and environment.
