Re: [Statisticians_group] running OLS in SPSS 15

yes sir i understand the difference between regression and ANOVA.
regression we study the effect of predictors on the regresand ..
where as we use ANOVA to see the difference  in the means across two or more groups..

but i have doubts on  spss 15 in which there is an option general linear model multivariate
in which we can specify more than one dependent variable.
i wud apreciate if u cud clear me this doubt.
like wise i ve some doubts on generalised linear model too.
what is it about.

thanks a lot

Hello Sumitha Pillai
OLS is a technique to estimate a Regression Equation. There are many techniques availabe for estimating an Equation.
There is a huge difference between the ANOVA and Regression. You may see any statistical book to clarify your doubt.
with best wishes

thank you for that quick reply sir
then what difference does it make between general linear model & generalised linear model in SPSS 15.
like wise  do u mean the regression and OLS r one and the same ?
but does nt there exist theoretical difference between these two  ?
thanks in advance

in fact there is another option general linear model multivariate in spss 15.
i got confused the same with ols.
i wud appreciate if u cud clear me what general linear model multivariate is for.
thanks in advance
looking forward to know more

Hello Smitha Pillai
In the SPSS menu you will see Analyse
Analyse>Regression
Then enter the Dependent Variable from the variable list provided on your left and also your independent variables. Then just click ok to get the OLS results.
