Purpose of Department
The HSBC Global Analytics Centre, Kolkata (GACK) is a centre of
excellence that provides best in class analytical services to various
HSBC business areas across the globe. Analytics is the expertise to
combine analytical thought process with in-depth business knowledge
to gain critical insights to make better and informed business
decisions. GAC's focus is on using advanced statistical analysis and
cutting edge econometric techniques through state-of-the-art software
(s) to understand and predict customer behavior and arrive at value-
based optimum decisions. GACK provides one with an opportunity to
excel in the business critical area of Analytics through close
interaction with the business globally.

CMB is one key income growth driver of HSBC. However competition is
becoming severe with financial institutions turning their focus to
capture the market share of CMB business. The operating environment
will become highly competitive and hence requires a stronger emphasis
on segmentation, customer driven proposition and new income stream,
enhanced distribution channels, strengthened sales & marketing
capability, and robust strategy development and implementation.

The HK CMB Analytics team in GAC is being set up to support the CMB,
HK business in Business Intelligence and Customer Knowledge area.

The jobholder plays a pivotal role in driving CMB progress
significantly on these areas. S/he is empowered to initiate, design
and develop the analytics to drive forward the segment and other
business strategies. S/he also has the principal responsibility to
drive customer insights, markets and competitions to guide the
development of proactive and reactive marketing, product and channel
initiatives.

The jobholder is commissioned, with support from the business, to
liaise with MKT and Segment Heads SPH on CRM/segmentation/research,
Products / Channels Heads SPH on developing and applying analytics to
drive P&L growth, mainly on but not limited to AMH.


Job Description
The purpose of the job is to contribute to the development of
knowledge based management, application of customer relationship
management capabilities for CMB by advanced analytics to enable the
delivery of multi-product and multi-channel propositions in a
seamless, effective and efficient manner, thereby maximizing the
value of business opportunities arising from each and every single
customer contact, achieving growth in profitability and market share
for CMB business in HK.
Build a centralized center of excellence to develop knowledge
management and effective customer segmentation strategies, via
understanding of market trends / competitions, customers' profile,
attitudes and need by advanced data analytics capabilities to achieve
profitability growth.

Major Challenges:

(1) The jobholder needs to lead and deliver researches, segmentation,
analytics and statistical modeling which directly contribute to P&L
impact to AMH CMB. S/he needs to design and develop the quantitative
analytical problems in good quality and accumulate and deploy best
knowledge across different sites to guide the formulation of business
strategies.
(2) AMH CMB has highest contribution to CMB. We need to build up
knowledge and hence competitive advantages in a quicker pace to cope
with frequent market change. Analytical capability is essential in
managing the SME portfolio with over 200,000 customers and 500,000+
directors which correlated each others in different forms. The
jobholder hence needs a strong analytical knowledge and also
possessing good business knowledge to conduct sophisticated analytics
to derive knowledge and guide the formulation of business strategies.
(3) Business problems are usually very complicated and further market
opportunities are not easily identified. The jobholder needs a
thorough understanding of all AMH CMB products/ services / channels
and their respective features and functionalities. S/he must also
possess strong knowledge of legacy systems across CMB and the data
infrastructure to be able to analyze data effectively and
accurately.
(4) S/he must have very strong persuasive power, influencing and
communication skills to work with different entities, including
product/channel heads, IT, Sales & Marketing.

Skills/Experience Required
• 4+ years of relevant work experience in hard-core analytics
in financial or banking area.
• Undergraduate/ Post Graduate degree in Statistics, Economics,
Operation Research, Management, Computers, Engineering or any other
relevant numerical discipline
• Hands-on experience in Scorecard, Segmentation, data mining,
querying large databases, data warehouse access and strategic
analysis.
• Knowledge of statistical techniques, SAS, SQL and Microsoft
Office.
• Exposure to database marketing, credit risk management in a
professional environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
Additional Information / Specific Skills (If Any)
• Specific work experience in the area of
Statistics/Econometrics/OR/Quantitative Research
• Knowledge of Commercial Analytics with a focus on Problem
solving.
• Expertise to lead project involving portfolio segmentation,
scorecard, targeting, and profiling using data driven analysis
