I think there is too much talk of SPSS and SAS
on this list and not enough about R.
If price is an issue, R wins hands down -- it is free.
Many of us think it wins in terms of quality and
power as well.
There is some introductory material about R on the
Burns Statistics website, and lots of other material
on
http://www.r- project.org and elsewhere.
