Re: [SunnyLUG] Linux for Toshiba lapTop

Dear Dr. Rai,

Did you try runing the Ubuntu Live first. Did it boot, if so. If that didn't
happen, there is no point trying Ubuntu. And the other more important reason
because of which I will discourage the use of Ubuntu is the fact that you can
never be the root. You can do all the super user tasks by using the 'sudo'
command which actually only uses the user's own password and enables root
priviliges for that task. I feel quite uneasy by the whole concept. The root
account is of course there but you can't login as root.........bah..!!!

As Himanshu said, your best bet would be trying Mandriva LE 2005 or 2006. If you
are lucky, you might find February's issue of LFY magazine at some news stand to
get your own copy of Mandriva 2006 that came with it. But I am not sure if your
laptop has a DVD drive in it. Because that is DVD media that came free with the
mag. Hey Himanshu, did you figure out which version of Mandriva I have sent you.
Chances are I might have made a mistake. Let me know.

Dr. Rai besides this there is another place you can look for Toshiba specific
installation reports and issues. You might be able to find your Laptop model
here. Chance are good. Here is the link:
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/toshiba.html

For my experience installing Mandriva on my Laptop here is a link:

BTW, Himanshu, my laptop is not Acer's. It is actually Packard Bell. But the
specs are about the same as yours :-)

Cheers
-Tarun
