MICROSOFT and SCO Group have labelled as inaccurate a leaked email
which suggests Microsoft provided some $US86 million to SCO Group
last year, apparently linking Microsoft to SCO's legal offensive
against Linux. Speculation has been rife that Microsoft, which sees
Linux as one of its biggest threats, was behind SCO's claims that
parts of the recent versions of the Linux kernel use code owned by
SCO. The publisher of the email, opensource.org's Eric Raymond, said
it was forwarded to him by an whistleblower inside SCO. The message
was dated October 12 2003 and sent from consultant Mike Anderer to
Chris Sontag, who oversees SCO's intellectual property licencing, and
cc-ed to SCO chief financial officer Bob Bench.
