National Youth Awarded to

Youth Leaders on eve of

‘National Youth Day’ in India

 

Exhorting the youth to play a key role in the nation building process, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr M. Karunanidhi said that Youth must play a key role in nation building and they should help spread the message of national spirit across the country.

Inaugurating the 13th edition of the National Youth Festival in Chennai on 12 January 2008, he enumerated steps taken by his government for encouraging sportspersons by way of cash award and other honour.

 

He gave away the National Youth awards.

 

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was the guest of honour in inaugural function of National Youth Fesitval and National Youth Award Ceremony, said over 2,500 delegates from several States and Union Territories were participating in the mega event.

 

Union Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr S.K. Arora, outlining the objectives of the festival, said the main theme was ‘youth for progress and excellence.’ There were participants from SAARC and Commonwealth countries.

State Minister for Environment and Sports, T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, said as part of the festival, 38 youths and two voluntary organizations were given National Youth awards in recognition of their social activities.
