Delegation of Asia Europe Foundation Visited
India
The two-member
delegation of Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) recently visited New Delhi, India
and met government officials, representatives of various religious groups and
visit to Indian Committee of Youth Organizations (ICYO).

During the visit to ICYO
secretarial of Mr. Ramon Molina, Director, People-to-People Exchange and Ms
Katerina Ragoussi, Project Manager, People-to-People Exchange of ASEF, Mr Ravi
Narayan, Secretary General of ICYO, received both with flowers.
Ms Katerina
Ragoussi briefed about the P2P project and its components. Till date Asia
Europe Foundation not covered India for its activities. Mr. Molina informed
that now India is the member of ASEM countries therefore ASEF also extending
its activities in India. ICYO assured the ASEF to extend it support for youth
related activities in India as well as Asia Europe region.
The ICYO team
which was present during the discussion includs Mr Vijay Bharatiya, Devinder
Bhagat, Ms Pratiksha Patel and Mr Ravi Narayan.
Later on Mr.
Ramon Molina and Ms Katerina Ragoussi alongwith Mr Ravi Narayan met Dr S. N.
Subba Rao, Chairman, ICYO in his office at Gandhi Peace Foudation.

Mr. Molina and Ms Ragoussi appreciated
the work of Mr. Rao and shown keen interest to extent it into the framework of
ASEF by promoting the Gandhian philosophy. Dr Subba Rao made many suggestions
for the future programmes and activities.
ASEF
is entrusted with the mission to promote greater mutual understanding between
the peoples of Asia and Europe through intellectual, cultural and
people-to-people exchanges. Fulfilling the vital role of interface between
civil society groups and governments, ASEF facilitates interactions among people
from diverse fields and transmits the resulting outputs as recommendations to
policy-makers. ASEF also brings civil society representatives together with
bureaucrats, diplomats and other government officials for direct and open
dialogue. Through ASEF, civil society concerns can be included as a vital
component of official deliberations at ASEM.
The discussion

including Mr P.V. Rajagopal, Vice-chairman, Gandhi Peace Foundation and chairman
of Ekta Parishad, Mr Babulal Sharma of SAPA.

Asian Youth Forum held

The 2nd
UNESCO Asian Youth Forum was held from June 26-30, 2008 in Gwangju, South Korea
with the theme “Sustainable Community in Asia”. The Section jointly organized the Forum
for Youth, Sport and Physical Education of UNESCO and the Korean National
Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) attended by 36
participants and 14 observers from 21 Asian countries including India (ICYO).

During the opening ceremony Dr. Samuel Lee
(Secretary General of the KNCU) delivered the opening speech, other speakers
are Ms. Suzane Maree Vize (Social and Human Sciences Program Specialist, UNESCO
office in Apia), Mr. Byung-hoon Lee, (Assistant Minister of Culture, Sports and
Tourism, Republic of Korea), Mr. Dae-won Kim (Vice-President, Chosun
University) and Mr. Zhongwei Huang (Elected Plenary Chairperson).
The working sessions were divided cording to various sub-theme including
Drug abuse; Value based education; Sexually transmitted infections; Employment;
Food security.
These working groups made various recommendations and also developed the
project frame to translate the recommendations in realities. Besides these five
topics and plan of actions, the success of the forum was an open dialogue and
cultural exchange between the young participants. Asian Cultural Youth Festival
added the colours where participants exchanged their thoughts and culture from
across Asia.

2nd
Asia-Europe Youth Interfaith Dialogue held
The
Asia-Europe Foundation and the Indonesian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and
Religious Affairs were organized the Second Asia-Europe Youth
Interfaith Dialogue in Bandung,
West Java, Indonesia from the June 23 – 27, 2008.

The main objective of the Youth
Interfaith Dialogue was to create and foster human networks among young people
by encouraging tolerance and mutual acceptance; and to increase initiatives in
the field of Asia-Europe Youth co-operation through the development of
action-oriented Youth organizations and networks.
Muhammad M.Basyuni, Minister of
Religious affairs Republic of Indonesia, inaugurated the Dialogue and keynote
speech delivered by Mr K.H.Hasiyam Muzadi,
Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama of Indonesia.
ICYO was
represent by Mr Vijay Bharatiya in the Dialogue; others who attended the event
from India are Mr Devider Kumar Bhagat of Kendriya Arya Yuvak Parisad, New
Delhi and Mr Manoj Mathew of Centre for Civil Society, New Delhi.
Training workshop on
protection from Sexual Abuse of young people held
The training
workshop on Protection of young from sexual abuse and exploitation was held on
19 July 2008 in New Delhi and attended by 38 girls from various villages and
resettlement colonies of Delhi and surroundings.
Mr Ravi
Narayan, Secretary General ICYO express his appreciation of young people
specially young girls for come forward to join hand with ICYO to create
awareness and sensitize the community on the issue of sexual abuse and sexual
exploitation of children and youth. The increase cases of rape against children
in Delhi and alarming rise in numbers of missing children show that children of
Delhi are not safe and peers action may protect and prevent such activities.
The
participants thanks to organizer about the informative workshop as they are
facing the challenges while working for their organization in the villages.
This is the
third workshop in the series of 2008. The next workshop will be held in
September 2008.
AYC General Assembly in Seoul, Korea
National
Council of Youth Organizations in Korea (NCYOK) will host the 10th Asian Youth
Council (AYC) General Assembly and Executive Committee Meeting from 29th of
July to 2nd of August 2008, in Seoul, Korea. The last AYC General Assembly was
held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2005. The election for the news office
bearers and executive committee members will also be held during the Assembly.
ICYO
is the full member of AYC and will attend the GA. Mr Ravi Narayan, Secretary
General of ICYO will represent the ICYO.

In conjunction
with the AYC General Assembly Asian Youth Council also give away the 2nd Asian
Youth Forum 2008.
THIMUN Youth Assembly held
The 12th THIMUN
Youth Assembly was held on July 6 – 11, 2008 in Hague, Netherlands attended by
youth around the world.
The conference
discussed various issues including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Human
Rights and Youth (HRY)
The other
committee of also developed the recommendations and project during the
conference.
100-member youth
delegation visited China
The Third Indian Youth delegation led by Shri S. K. Arora, Secretary (Youth Affairs) visited China from 29th June to 8th July 2008 under Indo-China Youth Exchange Programme. During their stay in China, the 100 members delegation visited Beijing -Guiyang – Fuzhou and Shanghai.
This year delegation was comprises of youth representatives from nearly all the States and Union Territories of the country. It also included a rich cultural troupe and Bhangra folk artists of Punjab
The exchange programme involved interaction with local youth, visits to tourist and cultural sites and introduction to economic and social activities. In addition, it also had elements of educations value with interaction and exchanges with students and faculty member meetings with economic and political personages and interactive sessions in different areas such as culture and sports. They also visited the rural areas.
Youth employment experts connect through ILO's Asia-Pacific
Knowledge Network on Youth Employment
The International Labour Organization (ILO) has launched the
Asia-Pacific Knowledge Network on Youth Employment (APYouthNet) on 30 June
2008, with aims to connect youth employment experts from across the region.
Launched within the framework of the Asian Decent Work Decade,
members are encouraged to engage in designing and implementing policies and
programmes that promote decent and productive work for young men and women.
Planned features include a New Youth Employment website, an online
discussion forum and events to be held for APYouthNet members.

Committee of Youth Organizations (ICYO) is a registered non-profit,
non-governmental network organization, committed in developing areas of mutual
cooperation and understanding among different youth voluntary agencies, youth
groups, clubs and individuals working in the field of youth welfare in
India.
ICYO
functions as an umbrella organization of youth NGOs in India. It's family
consists of
over 356 organizations spread in 122 districts of 22 states from different
corners of India.
