Dear All,
just wanted to point out the the lines quoted as me having said "The tourists
who go to Phuket look to the sex trade. They will do the same when they come to
the Andamans. They will then exploit the women of Andamans who are reeling under
dire poverty after the tsunami. Andamans have a fragile ecology and have one of
the purest rain forests. We have made a desperate plea to the National Advisory
Council to intervene", are factually incorrect. I said nothing of the kind to
the journalist - the way the report has appeared it seems these were the words I
had said. I said nothing about the women of the Andamans who are reeling under
poverty after the tsunami. I did not say that we have made a 'desperate' plea
to the NAC.
The wording and the quotes are the creation of the journalist, Kounteya Sinha
who got in touch asking for the letters a couple of days ago.
While the overall report is a good one, i think it is completely unacceptable
that quotes should be attributed to people when nothing of the sort has been
said.
