COAST guard rescues 05 indian fishermen near little andaman
Port Blair, Mar 02
The Coast Guard helicopter CG 803 rescued OS Indian fishermen stranded in
a remote location at north-west coast of Little Andaman Island at 1000 hrs
today. The CG helicopter on a routine surveillance mission sighted these
fishermen waving desperately for help. On reaching these fishermen, CG
helicopter found that their boat engine had failed and they did not have
food & water since last two days.
Two of the fishermen requiring medical attention were airlifted to their
village at VK Pur near Hutbay. The balance three fishermen did not want to
leave their boat unattended and were provided with sufficient food and water
during a subsequent sortie by the helicopter. Fishermen from VK Pur are
arranging for a local boat for towing back this stranded boat. Through this
press release, Coast Guard reiterates its request to fishing community to
operate in groups of two to three boats so that so that they can render
assistance to each other during distress situations.

COAST guard apprehends 14 more myanmarese poachers
Port Blair, Mar 02
The enhanced surveillance by Coast Guard in Andaman & Nicobar Islands has
resulted in apprehension of 14 more foreign poachers from Northern Group of
Islands on 01st March 2006. The Coast Guard ship Lakshmi Bai commanded by
Commandant (JG) Rakesh Rai, on routine surveillance mission sighted a
suspicious dinghy boat in position 12 nautical miles west of Interview
Island. The boat on seeing Coast Guard ship tried to run away. However,
after a chase of about 30 minutes, the boat along with all 14 Myanmarese
poachers was apprehended.
These poachers had come to Andaman Islands with intension of illegal
fishing and collecting sea cucumbers. The boat was having diving equipment,
diesel and ration for many days. The apprehended boat along with crew was
towed to nearest port at Diglipur and handed over to local police for
necessary
