Experts team to study desalination plant soon

Installation of desalination plants to supplement the availability
of drinking water will soon become a reality as the Union Minister of
Urban Development, Shri Jaipal Reddy has been persuaded to send a team
of expert, to Port Blair immediately to study the project, a press
release issued by the Executive Engineer, PBMC said here.
According to the release, the Minister was also convinced of the
necessity for installation of desalination plant and agreed for a grant
of subsidy of 80% on the water charges of the plant. A delegation of
Municipal Councillors led by the PBMC Chairperson, Shri Sher Singh
alongwith Shri Manoranjan Bhakta, Member of Parliament met the Union
Minister in New Delhi yesterday. The delegation urged the Minister to
expedite the approval of the proposal for installing desalination plant
which has been forwarded by the A&N Administration in view of scarcity
of drinking water in Port Blair. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bhakta
and the members of the delegation impressed upon the need for
installation of the plant urgently.
