LG visits Carnic, Campbell Bay
Admn. accords spl. attention to need of tribal populace

The Lt. Governor, Lt General (Retd) Bhopinder Singh hs said that his
administration has been giving special attention to the needs and
requirements of tribal populace. He stated this at Priyadarshini
Auditorium at Car Nicobar today, where he launched Coconut Mission. The
Lt. Governor also released a Documentary film and Document on Car
Nicobar Coconut Mission. The first copy of the mission document and
documentary film were accepted by Shri Aberdeen Blair, Chief Captain,
Tribal Council, Car Nicobar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lt. Governor said that the mission
will immensely benefit the local people. Besides increasing their
earnings, this can solve the unemployment problems of the locals to a
great extent in due course of time. He also informed that the Govt. of
India has approved the proposal regarding cash compensation for hodies
and proposal for granting compensation for replacement of livestock. He
also informed that the renovation of Nicobari House at South Point, Port
Blair is being taken up by the Integrated Tribal Development Project and
the same will be ready within a very short span of time.
The Lt. Governor also visited permanent shelter site at Perka
village, Car Nicobar and inspected the progress of the permanent houses.
He also inspected the community facilities such as recreation and
community hall, parks being developed by CPWD for the benefit of the
people of Car Nicobar.
The Lt. Governor, along with a team of senior officers of the
Administration also visited Campbell Bay. During his Car Nicobar visit,
the Lt. Governor inaugurated the renovated Operation Theatre at Bishop
John Richardson (BJR) Hospital. He also held discussions with the
Doctors and ensured them all possible help of the Administration for
rendering their medical services in a smooth way to the people of
Nicobar District.
The Lt. Governor assured the people present at the hospital that
efforts will be made to convert the BJR Hospital as First Referral Unit
(FRU) of Nicobar District, thereby doing away with the practice of
evacuating patients to Port Blair for minor surgical interventions. This
initiative will enable the BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar to function as a
Referral Unit for the Islands under this district.
