Forest Department positive towards promoting tourism in Long Island

http://www.andamansheekha.com/

Port Blair, Apr. 05: The Forest Department of Andaman and Nicobar
Administration is reportedly framing a master plan to promote tourism in
Long Island. Talking to media recently the Principal Chief Conservator
of Forest Mr. S S Choudhury today said that the forest department is
always positive towards promotion of tourism in the remote islands,
which during the British Regime was the headquarter of Forest Department
in Middle and North Andaman.

Islanders of Long Island and a few tour operators have been
demanding for handing over some vacant quarters of Forest Department to
tourism industry for promoting tourism, since long.

?There were some demands but all those were verbally conveyed
to us and we had asked for a written request so that we can take
appropriate decision. But till now we haven?t got any request on writing
in this matter. In case we get any, we would reply positively,? the PCCF
told media persons recently.

Long Island has two world class beaches, Lalaji Bay and Mark
Bay but due to failure of Tourism Department these islanders have not
been promoted well in International Level. After closure of Kitply
Industries from Long Island and shifting of Forest Department?s M &N
Headquarter to Rangat, the Long Island has become a totally neglected
place, which offers no prominent source of income to the residents of
the Island.

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration must frame a separate policy for
the Long Island so that tourism could be promoted in the island, which
in turn will also generate employment in Long Island.
