Experts team from MoTA to visit Andamans

Port Blair May 07: A team of experts from the Ministry of Tribal
Affairs, Govt. of India will be on an official visit to A&N Islands to
discuss the implementation of tribal welfare programmes in relation to
different tribes like Jarawa, Shompen, Onge, Great Andamanese etc. The
Secretary, Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India as also an expert committee in
this affair are scheduled to visit the places, particularly the abodes
of these tribes.
According to an official programme, the Secretary (TA), GoI, Mr. B
Mukharjee during his visit here is scheduled for having a meeting with
the Chief Secretary and other officers of the A&N Administration to
discuss the policy in respect of Jarawa and Shompen. He is also
scheduled to meet the Lt. Governor at Raj Niwas.
As a prelude to the Secretary’s visit, the Joint Secretary,
Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GoI, Smt Ruchira Pant will be on a six day
tour to these islands from tomorrow. Soon after landing here, she will
leave for Campbell Bay where she is scheduled to visit East West Road,
Shompen Reserve Area and Chingen village.
She is also scheduled to visit Dugong Creek and interact with
Onges on May 9. On May 10, the Joint Secretary will visit Baratang and
Kadamtala where she will interact with Jarawa tribes there. The Joint
Secretary will see a presentation on implementation of Jarawa Policy and
the role of AAJVS in its implementation in the conference hall of
Secretariat at 10 am on May 11. The Secretary, Tribal Welfare, A&N
Administration will make the presentation. Smt Pant is also scheduled to
visit Strait Island – Great Andamanese area on May 13.
