This article doesn't make sense.
SaddlePeak has no 'natural' population of elephants. Elephants were introduced
to the islands and have become very destructive in both North Andaman and on
Interview Island.
There is no zoo there.
Barter what? Are more potentialy invasive species going to be introduced?

Andaman jumbos at Vandalur for rest

CHENNAI: The Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur on the city
ourskirts had four guests on Sunday evening. Trundling into the
enclosure were
four female elephants, two adults aged seven years and two young ones
aged two years, from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Originally meant to be transported to a zoo in Madhya Pradesh, the
elephants will be in Vandalur for an interregnum. According to sources,
the four elephants, which come from the Saddle Peak National Park in
Andaman district, are tired because of the journey by ship from the
island to the mainland and need to regain strength before proceeding to
the Madhya Pradesh zoo, which appears to be facing a bureaucratic delay
in letting the elephants in.
"These elephants will be rested here until the Madhya Pradesh zoo
decides to take them in. No time frame has been fixed so far," P L
Anathaswamy, zoo director and chief conservator of forests, told TOI.
The pachyderms are now being treated at the veterinary hospital on the
zoo premises for and their health is continuously being monitored by
veterinarians.
Vandalur zoo already has five elephants -- nine-year-old Vikram,
one-and-a-half- year-old Chellam, one-year-old Abinaya, 24-year-old
Ashwini and 26-year-old Pari. The last two were brought from Mudumalai
in the Nilgiris last year for the jumbo safari.
The four guests are kept separately, at the rescue centre near the
hospital, as the zoo authorities are not sure how they would mingle with
the old residents. It would also be difficult for the workers to manage
all the elephants in the same enclosure.
Many raised doubts why elephants were brought from the island to the
mainland which already has a large number of elephants. Zoo officials
said it could be because the Saddle Peak National Park may be seeing an
increase in population of elephants, making it difficult for the
authorities to manage them. The officials are working out a barter, and
the Saddle Park may get some rare species not found in the island
territory, from the Madhya Pradesh wildlife authorities. "Barter system
is common between zoos. However, the kind of exchange will be known only
to the respective parties," a Vandalur zoo official said.
