Fuller exploitation of isles tourism potential stressed

It is high time to project these exotic islands as an ultimate tourist
destination through immaculate publicity for commercial exploitation of its
true potential, observed the Chairman, Port Blair Municipal Council, Shri K
Krishnan in his address at a seminar on Tourism and Sports: Easy path for
employment, culture and development held in the auditorium of Jawaharlal
Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya and organized by All India Radio, Port Blair to
mark the 'World Tourism Day' today.
Earmarking a single island, stuffed with all entertainment and state of
the art infrastructure facilities needs to be done on the line of other
countries making huge gains by way of employment and revenue to give a spin
to the isles economy and development. This needs to be done by formulating a
Tourism Policy with an eye for having fair share in the business of tourism
which is ever growing, emerging and recognized as the largest industry with
unprecedented gains the world over, Shri Krishnan added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director of IP & T, Shri Kuldeep Singh
Ganger said that besides the nature's bounties, the islanders are also known
for their generosity. Tourism infrastructures are being developed in a
phased manner to attract tourists in the coming years, he added.
Resource persons from different department addressed the gathering of
mostly students and apprised them of the areas where job opportunities exist
in the tourism sector. They were of the view that with available
environment, resources, culture and tradition of these islands, tourists can
be attracted. The resource persons included S/Shri Nishit Saxena, ACF, Env.
and Forests Department, Dr U N Choudhury, Asst. Director Sports, Deputy
Director Tourism, Shri Vinod Kumar, M Krishnamachari, Coordinator, Trade
Wings Institute of Management, Shri Deepak Govind, President Andaman Tourism
Guild and Ms. Renu Yadav, a student of JNRM.
Before the commencement of the seminar, the students of JNRM presented
a cultural programme in which a national integration show with the students
clad in costumes of different States appearing one by one on the stage. This
presentation evoked loud cheers from the audience.
An interactive session was also held in which the resource persons and
the Director, IP & T answered the queries of the students.
Earlier, the Director, AIR, Shri K Rajan welcomed the gathering while
Shri Ashok Srivastava, programme executive proposed the vote of thanks.
