Dear Jatin,
Mandi is the sort of a junction. From the bus stand of Mandi one
can change the bus for going to various places in Himachal. The
bus stand of Mandi is very ordinary bus stand.
There is a historical Gurudwara in Mandi Town overlooking the River,
where the original weapons used by Guru Gobind Singh are kept for
public view.
There is a Paras Guest House Restaurant at the end of Mandi Town,
beyond bus stand. This is a guest house for stay and has a nice
restaurant.
From Mandi, one can hire taxi for going to Rewalsar Lake, which
again has oval shaped lake, a historical Gurudwara (slightly uphill),
two monoastaries, few temples and Himachal Tourism (HPTDC) Hotel,
Hotel Rewalsar, Tel.: 01905-80252
(Tariff: Minimum=Rs.350/-) besides other private hotels. Rewalsar
is 25 kms from Mandi. Taxi charges are Rs.250/-. Bus will take
lot of time.
You can also go to Parashar Lake. It is 40 kms from Mandi.
It does not fall on the route to Rewalsar. One has to go on the
Manali Road and then turn right.
Bus service from Mandi is excellent for going to Palampur,
Manali, Jogindernagar and several local places. Jogindernagar
(57 kms from Mandi) is the nearest railway head (narrow guage).
The Kangra Valley Toy Train runs between Pathankot and
Jogindernagar.
There is no end of information. You can also visit AnanpurSahib,
Naina Devi Temple, Bhakra Dam, if you can go slightly off the
route and break your journey for overnight. One can stay at a
nice accommodation at the Sarai of Gurudwara Keshgarh Sahib
(that is Anandpur Sahib). The accommodation has all the facilities.
Nice clean rooms with bed and geyeser facility. After visiting
Bhakra Dam, Naina Devi Temple, Keshgarh Sahib and surrounding
Gurudwaras one can take bus for Mandi further.
Regards,
Rajesh Chandwani
