Nurpur (H.P.): A regional centre of the National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA) would soon be set up here. "A NDMA team headed by
specialist Shivaji Singh had last week conducted site inspection of the
proposed centre in Kopra village of this sub-division of Kangra
district," Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Indersingh Bhardwaj, who
accompanied the team, said.
The team would submit its report to the NDMA for a final clearance of
the site, the SDM said. The centre for the northern states — Himachal
Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttrakhand —will have a
big battalion to provide relief to people in the times of natural
calamities, official sources said. The battalion will be divided into
18 teams with 1,150 jawans, 18 doctors and other paramilitary staff,
