She hoisted the Minjar flag in the historic lush green legendary Chowgan of Chamba today. Speaking on this occasion, the Governor said the state had kept its traditional culture alive despite the modern influences and it was a great achievement, the credit goes to various fairs and festivals celebrated in the state. The Governor said these celebrations not only uphold the traditional values but also strengthen the spirit of fraternity and communal harmony among the people. The Governor said the fair was not only based on emotions but also on the age-old traditions of the region repleted with the scenic beauty. Congratulating the people of the region on the mega-event of the Minjar fair, the Governor hoped that the fair might head towards gaining its prominence at the international level and bring all-round development to the region. On this occasion, the Governor also declared Minjar sports tournaments open amidst singing of "Kunjari Malhaar" and exposure of crackers. Later, she inaugurated the exhibition installed by various government departments and non-governmental organisations displaying their developmental activities. The fair would conclude on August 3 with the immersion of minjars in the river Ravi. Tradition revived After 16 years, senior citizens and culture-conscious people of the district were delighted to get beautifully designed colourful `invitation card' for the Minjar Fair. The concept for bringing out Minjar invitation cards based on the history, arts and culture of erstwhile the state was mooted out by Devendra Barotra, a local artist, poet and scholar. The cards brought out by the chairman of the Minjar Fair Celebrations Committee depict the unique hill crafts on stone, wood, metal, Chamba rumal embroidery, chappal etc. Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy!
