this is neeraj bhushan, a new entrant to this group. in fact i am very new to
this group. its good to find there are people who do think of bihar. to tell you
honestly, i am taking this group seriouly and who knows our sincere efforts may
lead to achieving the purpose for which this group has been created and being
managed.

as a genuine bihari, i promise to make worthwhile contributions to the

seeking to redefine poverty and findways for its eradication touched off an
acrimoniousdebate between arch political rivals with theopposition RJD
questioning the wisdom of organisingsuch a costly congregation and the ruling
NDAdefending it as a part of its initiative to tackle thebiggest challenge
facing the state.The three-day international seminar on +revisiting thepoverty
issue: management, identification anderadication, which concluded here in July
last week,not not only saw luminaries in the field of economicsdiscussing ways
to identify incidence of poverty, butalso got the rival political sides to trade
chargesover efficacy of such events in tackling the malaise.A galaxy of eminent
economists from across the worldincluding Dr Arjun Sengupta, Chairman of
NationalCommission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector,Dr Abhijit Sen,
member, Planning Commission, RichardPalmer Jones of East Angila University,
Amresh Dubeyof National Council of Applied Economic Research,Peter Lanjow (World
Bank), Kaushik Basu of CornellUniversity, JNU Vice-Chancellor B B Bhattacharya
andUGC Chairman S K Thorat participated in thedeliberations.The global meet of
scholars organised by Institute ofHuman Development, Delhi, A N Sinha Institute
ofSocial Studies, and Asian Development ResearchInstitute and supported by Bihar
State Planning Boarddrew criticism from Union Rural Development
Minister,Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, who chided the state's NitishKumar government
for thrusting huge and unnecessaryexpenditure on the poor state.
