Dear Himanshu ji,
Thanks a lot for your narrative - a true picture, which we all experience when
we are there. Yes sir, I fully agree with your observation and concern. Almost
similar views are expressed by all of us from the great land of Lord Buddha,
strayed all over the world. The time has come (I am not talking about the
change in political environment) when people like you and me should join hand
and create an atmosphere where the process of change is accelerated.
Poverty is a monster. We really do not know how to address. But health is
the first step to make them healthy enough to earn a livelihood.
When I mentioned about creating health awareness, my focus is on informing
them of better health related practices and I have firm belief that with proper
health information and its utilization, one can keep away 60 to 70 percent of
problems without even visiting the health centres. Ironically, a large number
of children die every day just because of diarrhea death. Awareness alone can
prevent lot of health problems. At the same time strengthening the health
services are equally important and the concerned stakeholders must pay
attention towards this. I simply mean that without waiting for augmenting the
infra-structure which requires lots of investment, we should start awareness
campaign. This also can put pressure on the local bodies and elected
representatives to heed.
Thanks for the dialogue. I feel indebted. Let us stay in touch.
