Bihar govt to distribute Rs 10,000 crore as loan

Patna, Mar 09: The Bihar government would disburse Rs
10,000 crore as loan with help from NABARD in the next
financial year and has taken a number of measures to
improve the credit deposit ratio in the state, state
Sugarcane Development Minister Nitish Mishra said
today.

Replying to a short notice question by Nawal Kishore
Yadav (RJD) in the legislative council, he said of the
total sum Rs 7,000 crore had been earmarked for
priority and the remaining Rs 3,000 for non-priority
sectors.

Under the priority sector, loan of Rs 4,670 crore
would be distributed for agriculture and Rs 865 crore
for setting up industrial units.

The credit deposit ratio which hovered around 21 per
cent in 2001 rose to 30 per cent in 2005. As against
loan disbursal of Rs 6396 crore in 2001, the amount
was Rs 12,000 crore till September 2005, Mishra said
adding a number of steps had also been taken to check
the flight of capital from the state.

Districts with less than 40 per cent credit deposit
ratio have been identified and a sub-committee under
the concerned district magistrate set up to improve
the CD ratio.

Referring to distribution of credit cards to the
farmers, the minister said against a target of 6.54
lakh credit cards only 3 lakh credits cards were
distributed among the eligible farmers during 2004-05.

The commercial banks have been direct to issue artisan
credit cards, SME credit cards for industrialists and
self employment credit cards to weavers.
