Bihar's miniature artist wishes to represent India at international
eventshttp://www.newkerala.com
By Shailendra Kanth, Gopalganj (Bihar): Be it Saddam Hussein, Osama bin
Laden, Lalu Prasad Yadav or national anthem of India, Ramesh Shah has
created a splendid collection of images of national and international
personalities and events on single pieces of grain of rice. Every image is
distinctive in its own sense no matter if the viewer is an art lover or not.
Ramesh Shah, the miniature artist from Gopalganj has made human faces,
historical events, pictures of animals and even the entire globe on grains
of rice.
Though Ramesh has been interested in miniature art since childhood, his
visit to Siliguri in West Bengal turned his interest into a passion.
"During my visit to the Academy of Fine Arts, West Bengal, in 1983, I saw a
man painting the faces of people on a rice for a payment of Rs 2. It incited
my interest and I decided to go about it more sincerely. I started to paint
seriously from 1994, after gaining some experience. So far, I have painted
historical events like series of Kargil war, Pokharan test, Bhuj earthquake
and others," says Shah.
Ramesh wears many hats. He has painted the map of India 115 times on pieces
of rice, made art album of as small as 27x22 millimetre comprising 60 pages,
art albums of philosophers, Indian freedom fighters during the war for
independence and even written "Ram" 66,000 times on a postcard et al.
Today, Ramesh wishes to represent India in national and International art
exhibitions.
"I want to represent India at national and international exhibitions. Micro
art should be given recognition and government must support artists on
various occasions. I applied for an entry in the Guinness Book of World
Records and received a reply on May 1, 2003. I received a membership. But
things didn't move after that," says Shah.
Shah now plans to make an album containing the grain size portrait of
scientists, philosophers and prominent people from the world history. A
20x22 millimetre sized telephone diary comprising the contact numbers of
5,000 people, recognised in their field, is being worked upon.
But, sadly, the miniature artist complains of neglect from the Government
authorities, despite having such a talent to captivate any art lover around
the world
