Research Methods
- as inspirations for design
One day seminar at IDC, IIT Bombay on 8th November 2008
'Research Methods as Inspirations for Design' is a one day seminar focusing
on various methods for design research. The seminar is scheduled at IDC,
IITBombay, on the occasion of IITB's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Held as a commemorative event, the day-long presentations and discussions
have been marked out as a tribute to the role played by research in
enriching pedagogy and society with specific regard to the domain of design.
The idea is to build kinship with other domains by addressing the following
issues:
1) How can we shape our research methods for design, in inspiration from
research methods in related fields?
2) What might be some of the methods of validation for design research?
3) How to relate to research methods from the speakers own discipline, and
share experiences through examples, such as their own work, their students'
works, etc.
The key speakers have been chosen to present thoughts from disciplines that
are considered fundamental to the evolution of design thoughts and strategy.
The chosen disciplines for the seminar are design, architecture, aesthetics,
and the sciences.
The seminar will also showcase some of the research work done by the current
PhD students of the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay.
