wonder if it would help to take the survey to influence the decision.

Yahoo, now owned by SBC, is looking at changing the way Yahoo Groups
are made available. They're considering reducing the free services
and charging a fee for "enhanced" group features. They have a survey
http://sweepstakes.yahoo.com/groupspremiumsurvey2 that takes 10-15
minutes to complete that gives us a chance to say "no".
