Subject: Job opportunities with Drishti/Video Volunteers
Drishti Media Collective/Video Volunteers
is seeking to hire two filmmakers to work as full-time
VIDEO TRAINERS
to train communities and social organizations around India,
and eventually, internationally.
Brief Summary: Video Volunteers is a media for empowerment organization based in New York, with Drishti Media Collective in Ahmedabad as its partner in India. We train communities, community based organizations and NGOs to set up and run their own Community Video Units, in which NGO staff or community members produce their own videos for advocacy, training or empowerment purposes. Though the majority of our projects are carried out by volunteers, in 2006 we intend for 30% of our trainings to be carried out by full-time paid staff. This job will entail traveling to conduct 2-3 month on-site trainings in video production with social and human rights organizations around India. The trainings cover all aspects of video production with a strong emphasis on using video for advocacy and empowerment. Trainers will conduct intensive (2-3 month) trainings with 3-4 NGOs a year, plus shorter more intensive trainings and follow ups with other organizations. This is a job for videojournalism-style filmmakers: trainers will be expected to produce between 6-12 short documentaries every year. Successful applicants will be trained at Drishti in the strategic uses of video, and will have the opportunity to work with NGOs around the world, including in Africa and South America, in the 2nd year of their employment. This is a great opportunity for filmmakers interested in being part of the global movement to democratize media and wishing to work with NGOs and to use their skills to affect social change.
