Hi all,

just thought of checking what do designers read...

For me I used to read Hindi fiction novels before i joined NID, at
NId i started readin India Today, at one time i thought India today
was the best magazine in the world...i always looked at pictures in
National Geographic..but never read a page. Then outlook was
launched..and it was very good. Occasionaly ID and graphis articles.
I always liked the way CA (commmunication Arts) wrote about
designers...that was a huge insight and influence..i liked the
language..simple and direct.

Readers digest was a fascination...all the end jokes and then the
book section..i think it still is simple but brilliantly written.

After graduation, i realised that business magazines and news-papers
are important for business...so business today..and Economic times.
I have never liked the language and presentation of any of the
Indian business publications..but you read it for the news
value..Economic times along with Business standard is staple now.
Business India was always extremely boring but it had news and
info..which others dont...I liked Business world off and
on...Business world moves on the theme style..they were big on dot
coms..it almost became a dot com business mag...i stopped reading it
then...started reading it again when sometimes they started to focus
on design and innovation.

The favourites today..which are a real pleasure to read is Fortune
and Business week. I love the way articles are structured and put
across, i respect the edge they take and i always learn. Another
favourite is The economists..i dont buy it, i read it only in
flights and steal a copy. Sahara and jet have econoist in business
class. Economist is like a newspaper from the future..extremely
unreadable if the subject is not related to you..but there is so
much that u always have something which didnt know but needed to
know. I have also discovered that what you read in economist
today...you read in depth in months to come in other medias.

How did i get on to economist...i noticed a few of my clients
caryying it in their cars and jets. and it is touch and go magazine.
I always ask my clients what they read and what they see...that
there circle of influence. and you always know them better if you
know what influences them

I am not a big reader online. I read designindia and i read my
mails.I used read Core 77 eralier..now i only clieck and check a
link when niti send a mail.

Funny that there is not much on design that i read, i used to be
interested in Design Week..magazine from London...more to see where
design offices were going..or ID.

What do you read?
