Hi ,
An update on the 6th CII-NID Design Summit
Theme: Design with India
After the meeting on 16th October the team had greater clarity about
the panel of speakers that have confirmed their participation from
overseas and India. We have managed to attract a number of speakers
who have a unique point of view and command great respect worldwide
for their influence over the practice of design. The speakers from
overseas include representatives of Phillips (Eindhoven), IDEO (Palo
Alto), Microsoft, (Redomond) Motorola (Europe and Asia), LG (Korea),
Whilrpool, (Asia) Design Continuum,(USA) and members of the board
of ICSID as well as a representative from the IDSA and Asia Society.
We have taken into consideration the discussions on the DesignIndia
forum in determining the panel of speakers from India and abroad and
have made sure that we include a cross section of people from a
variety of perspectives and sectors of economy including design
houses, educational institutes, industry, management, and the crafts
sector.
Jags, your guidelines helped our brainstorming about session details.
The program is going to take another week or so to be finalized.
Then it will be posted on the event website. The discussion is
focused on the following themes:
• Future of Design
• India-The Emerging Design Destination
• Innovation thru collaboration
• Design Methods & Tools
• Design with cultural sensitivity
• Panel Disucssions on: Indian Design Scenario and Design
Education
We need your help to make it a great success. Please get your
clients excited about this event. Seema Gupta of the Confederation
of Indian Industry would be glad to respond to any questions your
clients or employers may have about this conference. She is
available at seema.gupta@...
This is the best time for promoting the cause of design amongst the
patrons of our profession. One of the key messages of one of our
featured speakers, Ignacio Germade, the chief of design for Motorola
(Europe and Asia) is, "Design is to the 21st century, what marketing
was to the 20th century."
Anne Kirah, another featured speaker at the conference is a dean of
the 180 Academy (Denmark), an innovation university set up by a
consortium of Lego, Bang & Olufsen, Nokia, Microsoft and many other
companies to train CEO's and other senior executives in innovation
techniques.
Don Norman, who is on the panel of advisors for this conference
recently sent an email to Uday. He says, "Design with India is a
most important event. Too many companies and designers think that
whatever works in their home country will work in India -- and all
over the world. Wrong. All nations, all cultures, all societies
have very special needs, very special customs and behavior. Good
design is always specific to the people for whom it is intended. SO
I am very Pleased to see this conference, and especially pleased to
see it held in India, and not in London, or San Francisco. "
We have also got the confirmation of many Indian speakers from
different sectors. This will provide the context within which
discussions and debate can find expression.
CNBC is the Media Partner and would be moderating one of the
sessions & telecasting the same on CNBC. ID Magazine and the NextD
Leadership Institute have offered media sponsorship.
We need to take full advantage of this conference and ensure that we
have meaningful discussions and return with a new understanding of
what it means to design with India. We need to ensure the presence
of as many representatives from the industry as possible.
Thanks for all the support and interest so far.
