Yes Ranjan, transparency, a willingness to initiate activity with an
understanding of organic processes and a desire for open-ended approach does
seem to be lacking. This is true for most activities initiated by the government
and is really a part of a historical process of evolution. I am certain that
they will get there at some point, things have improved a great deal of late
with the right to information act and such like.
I am sure Dr. Koshy will have factored this in when he talks of the perceived
fear of government. I mean however did anyone get such an idea? a fear of
government?
Your observations are timely and will hopefully be paid heed to. None of these
initiatives will work without full participation of all players and with
complete respect for all viewpoints however divergent they may be.
Workable approaches will evolve from the airing of these diverse viewpoints,
none of us will be able to impose directions on the future, except in the very
short term. The design community is an evolved one, it is wise to see and
respect that if one's initiatives are to amount to something substantial that
will stand the test of time.

Dear friends
I am surprised and quite shocked to see some of the recent developments
on the Design Policy and the Chartered Society of Design as well as the
long long pending national Design Council. When was the committee formed
and notified to frame and finalise the action plans for the National
Design Policy and why is there no transparancy in the process of
selection and inclusion of members in this committee? If we proceed with
this "indecent haste" as Prof Ravi J Matthai , would I am sure have call
these ministrations, we will surely end up in the wrong place and
certainly not where we all would want to be with reference to Design in
