dear isha,

we do nto have the time to make seminar happen. what might be a good idea is if we get designers to be there to meet with people in the textile and apparel business, more like a one on one clinic. this could be achieved by abt 50 posters spread around itpo offices. provided our NID brethren agree. do u think its workable?

Subject: Apparel Fair

Dear Anando

THEMATIC SEMINAR AT SHOWCASE DESIGN

India International Garment Fair 2003 is going to take place from the 18th-20th July 2003 at Pragati Maidan. It will be conducted by Apparel Export Promotion Council.

SD plans to keep a 2 day (18th-19th) seminar/discussion/cross talk amongst various Apparel Designers (s.a. Abraham & Thakore, Nien Siao, Amit Sinha, Sandhya Prasad, Ritu Kumar & others) We can ask the students/representatives from NIFT, NIFD, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Pearl Academy of Fashion etc.

Some of the topics that can be raised are:

1. The trends of the domestic market & what are the standards for the Indian market
2. Looking at the issues of finding a cultural/regional identity. There are contemporaries at international levels but Indian in nature. Hence, what to do to integrate this look.
3. The quality standards at boutique levels.
4. Building of the brand image for Apparel Designers for the domestic as well as the International market. What are the suggestions/ opinions for building this image?

Apart from these issues I’m still collaborating with other designers where we can have lots more to discuss. I have mailed some NID alumni Apparel designers who would be mailing me their opinion, which I will forward to you.

Our target people would be importers/exporters, apparel designers, students who are in apparel designing etc. For this 2-day event the timings would be from 11 am till 4 pm.

If we serve lunch to the participants on both these days, then per person the food packet will be Rs 60/-. Refreshments as in tea break (twice) would cost another Rs 50 per person. You can discuss about the faculty speaker & their honorarium. After that we can fix the amount of this seminar thing. I think that we can keep this event targeting professional in the field of apparel/garments as well as students. For students we keep it approx Rs 850/- per day & for professionals for Rs 1500-2000 per day. This is all tentative, you & NID would decide.

Kindly discuss it & let me know

Waiting for your response.
Regards
Isha
