SYNOPSIS
Manjuben has broken the gender stereo-types which are part of the social landscape she inhabits. She has created an identity for herself against social, cultural and economic norms, yet commanding respect from her peers. This identity is deliberately 'male', that of a macho trucker, drawn from several popular notions of maleness. Yet Manjuben defies simple categorization. While being one of the boys, so to speak, she, unlike most truckers, neither smokes nor drinks. Though she lives a totally emancipated life compared to the other women in her society, she is just as patriarchal as the next person. In other words, Manjuben is no crusader.
