hi,

welcome to design india egroup. I am sudhir sharma and i moderate this group.
I was in NID during 1983-1989 time and then started elephant design with four
other graduates.

It will be very nice if u can post a brief introduction of yr self on the group
as yr first message. Where are u, what are u doing, where did u study and any
issues u may want to disscuss. this will help others and friends to know that u
are there and to know u.

Also chk out pictures, update yr address in database phonebook as well as take
part in Polls. You have a choice of not recieving mails in yr mailbox and chk
them online...if u need any help on this count let me know.

the membership to this group is through invitation only...only u can invite yr
friend, or whomever u think worthy of being on a professional designers group.
DO send me a mail if you want someone to be invited on the group.

thank you once again and keep posting messages.

regards
sudhir sharma

Hi Sudhir

Here's my one paisa of design wisdom based on Grandma's proverb:

"Designing what you like is freedom,
liking what you design is happiness.

Design liked by user, client and you is good business,
design making bottomline go up & up is pure bliss."

Let's design for freedom, happiness and and good business!

Cheers

Sagar

Hi Sudhir

My few lines

(Good) Design is the ultimate evolution of man, and a focus of all his energies.
It pushes the envelope of experience to make man feel more human - to feel more
tender or powerful, to sense grace and be gracious.

To Design with India is to uncompromisingly engage with India to make Good
Design a part of India's fabric, to even make it the fabric that everything else
permeates through, to make it available and second nature to everyone. The scale
of the task is both daunting and overwhelming, and that is why we must begin
now.

Too many lines?

Dear All,

Thank you for your interest in the Design Summit.

Unfortunately the live webcast of the Summit is not happening now.

A week after the event, the webcast archive of the Design Summit would be
available on CII website (www.ciionline.org) in the Webcast Archive section.

The Audio-visual CD of the proceedings of the Summit would also be available
post event at a cost.

   With regards

Dear Sudhir,

Here is food for thought:

Design intervention exercises in India go beyond making pretty products in
attractive colours. It is rooted in value creation. In India, the perceived
value of a product far outweighs aesthetic appeal. In India, ‘Style follows
Substance’.

A. Balasubramaniam

We are forever looking for the Holy Grail called the Indian idiom. Product
designers are constantly challenged to make products appeal to the mass
market. Consider the kind of mass this country is, the challenge is
seemingly insurmountable.

IT+T - Rethinking textiles and technology in design

“Textiles are the natural choice for seamlessly integrating computing
and telecommunications technologies to create a more personal and
intimate environment. Although clothing has historically been
passive, garments of the 21st century will become active participants
in our lives, automatically responding to our environments or quickly
reacting to the information that the body is transmitting”. Extreme
Textiles

Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore, is
investigating new developments in the field of interactive textiles
in a project-based mode which seeks to
bring together two traditionally different fields - textiles and IT –
through Design.
As part of this project, Srishti is organizing a three-day workshop-
cum-symposium on “IT+T – Rethinking textiles and technology in Design”.

The aim of this event is to explore the dynamic space that can be
created through the merging of the rich textile traditions from India
and the cutting edge IT industry. The symposium will introduce
artists, designers, technologists and art and design students to the
field of interactive textiles, electronic textiles and wearable
computing that is changing the aesthetics and functions of textiles.
National and international designers and researchers working in this
field are being invited to present their work and conduct the
workshops for the participants.
The symposium will run from the 12th December 2006 to the 14th

Dear Sudhir,

Here's my take on it:

"Design with india, and understand the kind of problems design faces/helps
resolve in the worlds largest democracy. Learn how design reaches grass
root levels and multinationals, wading through both beaurocracy, and red
tape-ism. And if that isn't melodramatic enough, come and design with us and
see for yourself!"

Dear Sudhir,

My ONE sentence:

"As India reveals its inner strengths of growth and
passion to excel, overwhelming its image of glorious
history and culture, come and be part of Indian Design
- the most important driver of economic and social
change."
