Good Day !!!

You are invited to join "Yahoo! Groups - archydro" (ArcGIS -=20
Geographical Information System). This group aims to provide a forum=20
for exchange of ideas and experiences regarding application of GIS in=20
Hydrology and Water Resources; and use of ArcGIS software (in=20
general) and Arc Hydro (in particular).

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are used to display,=20
manipulate and analyse spatial (map) data. ArcGIS (produced by ESRI)=20
is an integrated collection of software products for building a=20
complete geographic information system (GIS). There are three ArcGIS=20
desktop applications - ArcCatalog, ArcMap, and ArcToolbox. ArcCatalog=20
is the application for managing your spatial data holdings, for=20
managing your database designs, and for recording and viewing=20
metadata. ArcMap is used for all mapping and editing tasks, as well=20
as for map-based analysis. ArcToolbox is used for data conversion and=20
geoprocessing. Using these three applications together, you can=20
perform any GIS task, simple to advanced, including mapping, data=20
management, geographic analysis, data editing, and geoprocessing.=20
There are also server-based ArcGIS products, as well as ArcGIS=20
products for PDAs. Extensions can be purchased separately to increase=20
the functionality of ArcGIS.

GIS is a powerful tool for developing solutions for water resources=20
such as assessing water quality and managing water resources on a=20
local or regional scale. Hydrologists use GIS technology to integrate=20
various data and applications into one, manageable system. ArcGIS=20
with Arc Hydro gives you the flexibility to combine watershed=20
datasets from one map source with stream and river networks. The=20
suite of tools contained in Arc Hydro facilitate the creation,=20
manipulation, and display of hydro features and objects within the=20
ArcGIS environment. Use ArcGIS Spatial Analyst for hydrologic=20
analysis such as calculating flow across an elevation surface, which=20
provides the basis for creating stream networks and watersheds;=20
calculating flow path length; and assigning stream orders.
