Instituto Camoes premises opened

PANJIM, DEC 6 - Centro de Lingua Portuguesa-Instituto Camoes (CLP-IC), after a long period of inactivity since its launch in 1999, has resumed its activities in Goa.
On Tuesday evening, Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, Prof P S Zacharias, inaugurated the new premises of Instituto Camoes in Agva House on Dr Dada Vaidya Road in the city. Consul General of Portugal, Dr Pedro Cabral Adao, and Director CLP/IC Goa Jose Miguel Rebeiro Lume, were also present on the occasion.
Speaking about the history of Goa and Portugal, Mr Lume, said, “Instituto Camoes is all about living in the present and at the same time learning from the past.” Dr Adao said that he was happy to learn about the demand for Portuguese among Goans. “I hope to come again and again to fulfill this demand,” he stated.
Speaking about the Portuguese Distance Education Programme of GU, Prof Zacharias said that he was more than happy to revive the Portuguese Department at the University.
On the occasion, Prof Zacharias also inaugurated a commemorative photo exhibition - Decorative Portuguese Pavements — to mark the beginning of the new phase of the centre. The professional photographer, Ernesto Matos, gave a detailed description about his work.
The local delegation of Instituto Camoes will promote exhibitions, film festivals, conferences, seminars and other activities within the scope of the inter-cultural dialogue between Portugal and India.
